    M62 eBay Headers?

    Hey all,

While lamenting the general lack of cheap M62 performance parts, I stumbled upon these in an eBay search: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-BMW-E38...!US!-1&vxp=mtr

$232 and free shipping for a set of M62 headers!

Has anybody tried these before? I'm curious about them, because I can actually afford them (no way am I ever paying for Supersprint/Dinan headers). I figure headers are headers for the most part, and these are probably a Chinese bootleg of a more expensive header so I can't imagine it being too terrible— like the eBay headers for E36's are actually pretty nice from what I've seen in person. Maybe they don't flow as well as some super high-dollar headers, but I bet they flow better than the stock ones.

I've heard they work good for the E46 M3 just require a bit of work sometimes to make them properly fit

I've been told they need a little work to fit the E39, but they fit directly to an E38

They look pretty good. Can't beat the price!
Not sure if these are the ones that Geargrinder has. Pretty sure he has a set of some eBay (or similar) headers.

They may fit non vanos ok, maybe some tweaking needed at steering area, but maybe not.
For TU, they will need new lower pipes fitted to connect to cats.

GG has A1's or something like that.

Since we are on this subject, what headers are currently available?

    I know of,

    Jedders I think $5500

    Supersprint looks like $3100+ accessories

What else is available? I can't find the mentioned A1 brand

I bought some long tube stainless headers from Schmiedermann 2 years ago, they were made in Italy. Think I paid $1200 for them.

No, not Supersprint. Will look up the name and update this later today. Think it was something like PowerSport.
This is what I bought. Don't beleive the 5-6 hr install, 5-6 days is more accurate.

    They were PowerSprint headers.

The eBay headers don't look like they'd actually offer you much in the way of performance gains, but they're a straight bolt in option. That's appealing.

I want to know what the M62 would sound like with 180* headers.

I don't have direct experience about headers for this car, but I'm skeptical about any improvement from these particular headers. For starters, they look like they have the same tubing and routing as the non-TU stock manifolds. (That's actually pretty good, and perhaps as good as you can get with that engine, given the 270-degree firing intervals for paired cylinders with that set-up. Not sure EL headers are worth it either, though bigger tubes usually help.)

So why would one think they are better, or enough better to make it worth the cost and effort? In short, I disagree that "headers are headers." And I would bet that they don't flow better than stock. No offense intended. Just my take.

I mean I’m mostly after some cheap performance gains. But if eBay headers don’t actually yield significant gains then it’s not worth the time and effort to install them. If spending thousands of dollars I’d rather install an S62... $3100 for Supersprint headers to gain a few hp, versus a 100hp gain from a $4000 S62.

Yes there is probably not the gain in headers for the money asked unless pushing the power envelope with custom na build or supercharged. Motorsport downunder do a rhd header but at 2k (aud) I haven’t found the need to look at them as yet

Im interested in some ebay headers as well I am watching the exact same listing on the headers myself lol. Vanos Headers are the worst even if they are gutted the stock ones are better by design but the aftermarket headers on M5's show significant gains so its pointless going with stock headers if your goal is to make the most power possible. My biggest concern is the fitment and then installation. I don't want to buy headers that won't fit correctly not looking to weld and cut anything. If something has to be grinded then its fine are their any automatic or 6speed clearance issues.

Also will need factory Y pipes with O2s bungs and will have to extend sensor wiring plus hardware. Considering deleting the cats and going with a Rogue Engineering E39 M5 X-pipe. There will be a gap were the cats go so I could add 2 more resonators or go straight pipe, it will end by the diff and be a light weight setup. The noise or drone im not so sure what it will be like.

If not then just a muffler delete.

I think if you approach from the HP/$ standpoint, the EBAY headers could be worth it.... I've never bought them, so don't hold me to it LOL! Obviously a small bump would be a lot less noticeable than an S62, but not even in the same ballpark as cost..

Even if you gain 7 whp from headers, for a $232 investment you're at $33/whp.
    Add a dinan/m60 intake, N62 throttlebody.... you could probably snag another 15-20whp, $300 in cost? - that's $15/whp
So with those 3 mods, you could tack on a realistic 25whp, with a tune for less than $1k. which is that $40/whp that an s62 swap would net you. Yea it's not blowing the doors off anything, but it will sound the business and have a bit of a bite to it.

I'm sure you can do better and more little mods, can't remember off the top of my head. I'm sure an LSD 3.15 would do wonders. I know my 4.10 gears in the m3 added a considerable amount of useable torque....

I already have a 3.15 in the 540it, as all 540it's got the 3.15. I eventually plan on swapping in a 6-speed manual and an M-factory LSD.
