    2011 bmw 328ix - Questions from a noob

Im new to this series of vehicle and I wanted to double check my knowledge from what I have been reading over the last few weeks.

Im looking to purchase a 2011 BMW 328 Xdrive - I have an issue with the purchase and I posted it in another thread -but for this thread I just wanted to gain a better understanding of the model.

This is what I gather so far - PLEASE CORRECT ME if I am wrong.

    A 2011 328ix has the N52 engine and is designated as a E90 sedan (4 doors)

It does not have a high pressure fuel pump (HPFP).

It does have an electric water pump.

It does have the Vanos system.

It has the updated head to correct the lifter problem that BMW had with these engines - pre-2009

When I search the 3 main items I see is Lifter noise, sticky Vanos, and electric pump - otherwise this is a reliable engine - reliable car.

    Am I missing anything?

N52 is largely a very reliable engine. The better you care for it, the better it will care for you. That means ignoring almost everything BMW has put out as suggested maintenance intervals. Mine has over 100k on the original water pump and I'm not going to change it until I have to. Same with the coils. The AC compressor is dying, but that's common to all makes and models over 100k. Get a solid PPI from a shop that knows BMW's and move on from there.

I love my 2012 328xi but indeed the run flats are straight trash, I have had the car for 4 months and I’ve had 3 blow outs. Run flats are nothing but trouble and way over priced for awful road noise and not for lasting as long as regular tires. I live in West Virginia and our roads are complete trash!! Just be ware of run-flats, some people like them but I have not had a good experience with them ): (ps I avoid potholes and everything else in the road)

I agree with the get rid of the run flats sentiment. Much better ride afterwards. Also, it is a great car with a great engine. Xdrive is a bit sluggish in first gear, better results starting in second (use sport mode and put in second with automatic). Also slow first shift when cold.
