Play in Shifter even after new bushings

Hey guys I need some help before I tackle the 5 speed swap this weekend. So I bought a used ZF transmission and I have some play in the damn shifter. I have replaced every bushing and I even replaced the selector rod to a DSSR in the hopes of eliminating the play. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

If you want a really tight and notchy feel you will probably need an aftermarket SSK. I have a z3 shifter with all new bushings and solid trans mounts and it still has a bit a play.

I agree, OP's setup looks like the "right" amount of play for a rebuilt stock shifter on a used transmission. Before I rebuild my M3's shifter, 5th sat in the same position as 3rd and I was pretty paranoid about accidental money shifts. A little bit of play is worth it for smoother shifts IMO.

Ill have to purchase a short shifter then. I was hoping that all new bushings and a dssr would cut back on the play. Thank you

You need to replace the shift detent bushing in the transmission. This is the reason people "money shift" from 5th to second and blow their engine.
