So I have been looking for a while for an E 46 330 I manual coupe or sedan. I haven’t found a single one of my area. I found others but they were 225 and 228. I’m asking for your opinion, does it really matter what engine the car has if I decide to buy it? I know there’s and 52 and 50 4B 25 and M 50 4B 30 which is the most horsepower stock. But does that matter? Should I just go with whatever I can acquire, and tune it build it and turbo charger later to it’s maximum capability? Please help! I’ve been really wanting to start this. Thank you. I’m specifically looking at E46 coupes and sedans with the manual 5 speed. Thank you in advance
All the E46 are aluminum blocks that are not as commonly turbocharged and are a little trickier to do right. If you insist on proceeding and understand all the differences and how to address them, I’d start with the larger displacement 330i so you have the longer stroke crank should you build the motor later. The old saying that there is no replacement for displacement applies to turbos also. Technique Tuning may still sell a 330i turbo kit.
Wait I thought like a crap ton of e46s are turbocharged and modified ??
Huh.. well then I don’t know what I want anymore. I was looking for a semi good condition bimmer to clean up mildly and modify with non Chinese shit.

Just start with a motor that has never been overheated and maintain it well so it never overheats. Don’t be scared - just know what you are getting into. Doubling the power on a 15 year old car always comes with risks. And if you start with a Euro import for which parts are more expensive than a domestic car, expect the cost of everything to be higher — parts, maintenance, labor, mods.
I feel like you should do research, you're starting multiple threads and asking questions that can be answered with a simple google search. I mean no offense but your budget for a car is $6000, but you want to "turbocharge" it? You didn't even know what the term "forced induction" meant which is a widely used term. You're not naive you haven't researched.
