    Vanos solenoid

    I was looking at the vanos solenoids for e36s and they do not look like the one on my car. Mine looks like the one for a e38. Could this be why I have code p1519? I have a 97 m3.

    Post a photo.

    OBD2 M3 use this;

    OBD1 are the same part just with a longer lead on them.

    If your solenoid has zero wire and just a plug, then yes you have the wrong part... however if it is wired with polarity correct, it is likely the same functioning solenoid otherwise (depending on which solenoid exactly it is).

    My phone wont let me post a pic. The one on my car doesn't have the wire and plug like the pic it just gets plugged in right to the back of the solenoid. I do have a solenoid that looks like the one in the pic on the vanos I was going to rebuild.

    I switched over to the proper vanos solenoid and now I can hear and feel when it kicks in but still have the codes. I'm guessing I'll need to rebuild the spare vanos and put that on.
