I have a 2003 320i .. The climate control fan only works when it feels like it and only on high when it does. When it does work head blows hot at ac blows cold. Replaced the fsr without any luck. Figure I will look for advise on here before I get out a multimeter and start searching for wiring schematics.
That is usually the symptoms of a bad final stage unit. You already replaced that? What brand did you use and where did you get it? Was there ANY changes to the blower operation after that? Does it operate on high when the control is set low?

Made by hella from ecs tunning. The fan did not work at all before replacement. After replacement fan worked for a short period and now works intermittently. Does not work at all when set to low.
Get another one.

Looks like the newer Behr/Hella FSU is made in China. Used to be a good product when made in Germany. Now cheap Chinese crap. FSU has always been a problem for all the cars that use the same part but it should last years not minutes, hours, days ect. Of all the vehicles this part is used in, e46's are by far the most difficult to replace due to removing the glove box and hvac stepper motor. E39's are super easy with a total of three screws. It's still not difficult to do, just a little more time. Look for a part made in Germany or Europe instead of China or Taiwan so you don't have to keep replacing it.

I got the OEM FSU from Pelican several months back for my M3 and it works fine. $55 I think.
