First off, yes I searched the forums first, but also have a weird situation on my hands.
I just purchased a very clean 2004 325i, manual transmission. The clutch is serviceable, but definitely slips a bit when driven hard. I plan on autocrossing the car and putting headers on it early summer, and my buddy just plans on dropping the engine to install the headers easily, and we might do the clutch while we're in there. My main question is what clutch kit to buy. All of the ones I seem to find say they're compatible with cars made UP TO March 2003, and my car was built in October 2003. Here's where it gets weird. I've found kits for newer cars, but it says it's for 6-speed transmissions, whereas my car is a 5-speed. I went onto www.bimmer.work to decode my VIN.....and it comes up as an automatic car. So now I'm wondering if this car was swapped at some point?? I'm only the 3rd owner and it appeared to be absolutely bone stock.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Go to realoem.com and enter your last 7. Or call the local dealer and ask for a price on a clutch. They will ask for the last 7 of the vin. They will not be able to look it up for a car that is swapped. Also iirc only m3s and late 330 models got the 6 speed.
