Hey there, bought a e34 '95 m50b20 non vanos recently, automatic gearbox, it had the problem from the beginning, the engine starts nicely since 1 spin, revs good, has "ok" acceleration and doesht choke, but i cannot start driving before the temperature reaches its peak, untill then the RPM drops below 500 and the engine shuts. Once the temperature is on its peak it doesnt shut anymore but the RPM stays very low, so low the car shakes badly on every red light and the engine doesnt run smooth on low rpm, sounds like it doesnt fire on every cylinder. All this doesnt happen once i hit the gas.
Where can i look for clues?
A '95 car should have vanos as per the top photo in this link. Non vanos looks like the second photo

Your idle control valve may not be working, you could have a vacuum leak or a bad coil
Oh damn, i think i got the vanos then...
This is a short movie of how the engine works on idle

Can you tell me from the move if this is the vanos?
If so, can it be faulty of all this?
Doesn't vanos make a particular noise when failing? I wouldn't know as mine is NV.
But anyway, start with the basics:
When I got water in my sparkplug wells (and the boots were stuffed) it ran like that in the video, So I guess start wiith coils and plugs. Then vacuum lines.

the coils and plugs have been changed by previous owner recently, gotta check the vacuums then. Im rly concerned about the vanos now, finding someone that rebuilds this thing is so hard in Poland.
Anyway, Vanos should work a lot worse on hot engine right? My engine runs better when its hot
