fitting a new aftermarket head unit e38

hi , I have a 1997 e38 750il and want to fit a new aftermarket head unit with dab etc to it , but I cant seem to find the correct adaptor wiring connection to connect it up to , I have been in touch with the supplier and they said just go in the trunk and see what connections fit , but none of the adaptors seem to fit , any ideas , cheers

I've been looking at this nearly since the day I bought my e38. Everything I find basically says it is super hard. Evidently the HVAC ductwork limits most applications for aftermarket head units. There are one or two recent additions to the marketing place that some of the guys on here are testing. Do a search, they'll come up. Good luck.

My experience taught me a lot....at least here in Western Australia there are a lot of idiots that install stereo systems into "bogan or red neck limo's" such as Falcon and Commodores but when it comes to the nuances of BMW they are way out of their depth. My first attempt they assured me that an aftermarket unit such as Pioneer double din would fit no problem (I told them all the things that could go wrong) 8 hours later they removed it all. The end result was an Avin unit (this is 3 years ago) and as my car had DSP it also involved a G.A.S passive crossover, Bavsound Stage One speakers (not a necessity), the 6m extension cable to connect the to old NAV etc so the system didnt go banana's. I discovered later that there was one screw holding the head unit in, they hadn't tightened the earth etc and initially I found the Bavsound harsh ( I like the warmer Euro style of speakers at home) but they said give them time to break in and to my surprise they improved greatly after a few hours of use.
So for the new "old girl" 750il I have an Avin 3 on the way which should be a nice slick fit without chopping up the car. I found Tommy at Avin to be very helpful when I was trying to sort issues with the clowns that were doing the work and didn't hesitate to order again but it won't be installed for a few weeks as I am going to be away. Hope this helps

Similar story, have an Avin on the way to NZ. Should sort all the issues here with Japanese imports etc.
