    E39 M54b25 - Mechanical to Hydraulic Tensioner

    2001 BMW e39 525i M54b25
I think I screwed the pooch here. I purchased a new hydraulic tensioner and pulley to replace the mechanical tensioner/pulley.

I cant figure out how it should go in but something tells me I need new hardware/bolts for the conversion. I see a full kit at FCPEuro https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...1287838797-1-2 but I just bought the tensioner.

What the heck can I do? BMW/realOEM really isnt clear on this.

Im assuming all the bolts under #2 are what need to be replaced for the hydraulic tensioner?

Yeah, the photo-hosting-service-that-shall-not-be-named really wrecked a lot of helpful forums. There are some browser extensions that will restore the photos if they're from the photo-hosting-service-that-shall-not-be-named.

For our I6 E39s, oftentimes more helpful information specifically for the M54 can be found on E46fanatics. It's a great resource.

Just be aware that only the top mechanical tensioner can be upgraded to the hydraulic one. The one for the AC (if is originally a mechanical one) cannot.
