The PO of my car told me the car had Race Marque Systems exhaust on it. The Muffler has tips with "RMS" on them but the muffler looked stock and the exhaust was pretty quiet to me so I figured someone welded RMS tips on a stock muffler. Well when I took the exhaust off today to install a new exhaust i purchased this is what i found:

It appears someone has cut this thing open to I presume modify the internals.
And then they had a toddler weld the piece back on:

Just the tips:

and the whole section

I did some research on the company and they no longer make an exhaust but it sounds like they did at one time. I thought I read it was a scratch built piece. So do I have a stock exhaust modded by RMS? Or did one of the PO's hack the muffler and mod it and someone put RMS tips on it? I was planning to sell it but now I have no idea what to list it as or if i should just take it to teh scrapyard instead.
search my name in this forum for "modified exhaust idea" i did a few years ago... looks like they might have copied what i did. its been about 8 years now..

Stock exhaust, with rms tips. Don't knock the welds they look decent for what probably was no prep work.
lol, no. Dinan did this 20+ years ago. Since Osh worked with Dinan, it only makes sense he copied them.
Many of us have modded the stock muffler. I did mine back in 2006. Even BMW is in on it with the Grp N being a heavily modified stock box.
This muffler is very old and a copy of Dinan’s V1 exhaust. It’s worth $100-200.

I had the same exact RMS exhaust down to the welds on an m3 I bought in 2001. PO said he bought it new. Very subtle sound, just slightly above stock. I liked it as I had an infant daughter at the time that I was DDing it with.

I have their headers...seems like their catback is much less that I would've expected. Most their stuff is huge for FI. My headers hate that I'm not FI ...but they sound cool...
That looks like a stock exhaust with RMS exhaust tips.
That said, RMS did make quality cat-back exhausts back in the days. I had one on my old E36 325is 15 years ago. It's a rebranded Fox exhaust, which was well known in Europe when it was produced. In the 90s, this exhaust from RMS retailed for $895, a pretty hefty price tag but just like its hardware for supercharged motors, the quality and construction were excellent.
