Convertible Top

Hey guys, I just purchased a 89 325i convertible and I'm having an issue getting the top back. I understand how to release everything, but i cannot get the lid for the compartment for top to fold back into open. I understand there is supposed to be a latch that u pull and you just pull up but thats not working for me. It is a manual, so I assume there are no motors I'm dealing with. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

It seems you have the right procedure. That lever under the driver's side rear window has to be pulled to release the catch on the deck lid. The lid will pop up a little so you can open it all the way. It is not an easy pull. It hooks to a cable that releases the deck lid. What happens when you pull that lever?

When i pull the lever i hear a click. Then it lets me pull up the back of the top, I assume to give room to open the lid. So I pull up the top from the back a little, then reach down for the lever to open the lid and pull up but it doesnt budge at all.

OK, The top needs to partially folded. First fold top back from front, that allows you to raise back. Then you reach in to pull the lever. When it clicks, there is another catch under the lid on the drivers side. It's kind of like a hood latch that you have to poke your finger in to push to release. Then the lid should open fully.
