I had been playing with these wheels that came with the Touring for some time now. Trying to decide on what to do with them. I didn't want to go out an buy new wheels, not yet anyhow. I'm holding out for a decent set of M Pars for a good price. I had originally plasti-dipped them, but these mesh wheels are a pain to up keep. So I decided to paint them. I wanted gold wheels, but nothing to flashy. I found a not too flashy color called Harvest Gold. A Ford color. The wheels are Beyern Mesh staggered. 18"x8.5" front 18"x9.5 rear. 1.5" lip and 3.0" lip respectively. Not the greatest wheels, but still look nice I think.

Everything looks great! I absolutely love a clean tan interior. I have a sapphire black with grey interior. I dream of swapping it to a tan interior but alas... I'm self employed with 4 kids, one being a 5 month old so I know my limitations

What other plans do you have for the interior?

Got a lot of parts from him. I also changed out the passenger control module in the door as it needs to have the folding feature. I can find the part number if you need it. Mirrors have been holding up. Every now and again the pass side will not fold on the first try. Not sure if it's the pass module or the mirror. I'm thinking the module. But it folds after a second attempt.
That has been a concern for me if the folding option on the knocks offs holds up, but hard to beat the price even if they quit can buy a few more pairs at the same price of the OEMs. But painting time etc can eat up $$$. Want to buy OEM just because the way my mind works to buy OEM if at all possible...but even for a deal they still are pricey. Appreciate your sharing experience with the Chinese ones so far helps a lot, another thing appreciate what this forum does for all involved the information is astounding...

Your car is looking great, IM sure rewarding to you seeing it unfold with each idea finished...

Great minds think alike. My E61 came with ALL the sand beige and slowly over time I converted everything to black except the leather. I made some hybrid door cards as well by transferring my leather inserts over to black cards. Beige really pops over black and I love the contrast.

I am doing the same thing on my E39 and thankfully I have the hard part done (cargo area) so all I will need to do is pluck pieces from sedans to convert the rest of the interior.

Don't mean to hi-jack your thread but thought I would share some pics!

Love the progress of your build and jealous of your exterior color.

Thanks much. Not too many like the tan/beige. I think for the e39 it's was the dash and door card tops in that brown that really made me want to change it. I like a little beige but not an entire car full of beige. I did get take out the seats and put black M5s in it. I'm planning on possibly reupholstering those with alantara beige inserts with black stitching later on and maybe a full alcantara headliner. This will be my e39 Touring Black & Tan. Seats or available

Outstanding work on that e61 and I've seen your e39 project. It's coming along in great form. I put black seats in mine. I guess there was too much beige for me. I do think black seat backs on those sport comforts would look killer like you did on the e61. I originally looked for an e61 years back to customize, but I just loved the 4.4L and of course the e39 body style. I've had 4 now! An e61 down the road isn't out of the picture just yet. I'll be keeping an eye on your build to see what happens next. Thanks!

Here's the interior with the rear seats dyed black and M5 lux installed up front. I need to dye my center rear head rest and put that back in for the right fit for the touring.

E39s are classic, especially in touring trim. Before the E61 I had an E39 M5 which had full exhaust, some bolt ons, and was custom tuned, one huge advantage the E61 has over the E39s is power and speed. The E39s make a great noise but a tuned E61 would eat it for lunch in terms of performance. M62TU seems to put out ~240whp, my M5 made ~390whp, and my E61 makes 550whp; that number could go up to 800whp with more turbo and fuel. The N54 is a FANTASTIC tuning platform.

    E61 build if inclined: http://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36899

Ive "never" been a fan a beige interior, such a huge difference you made changing it up with the black, honestly looks sharp, know its a real PITA to install but a black headliner & would really tie it all together. Work involved is tedious time-consuming, would really be a wow factor if you ever decide to do it...over kill? Could be... some would say not worth the effort...but IMO a big wow when finished...all the pictures are a bonus to us looking in...

Curious on the mirror install, did you have to use the passengers side module? Heard some have both mirrors folding not installing that one...

Thanks. I agree with you 100% on the headliner. Had the same thoughts and concerns. Would be killer to do eventually. Was just talking to the wife about that a few hours ago as a matter of fact, haha. But if I did that, I think I would want to do all the pillars, rocker panel trim and carpet black as well. Leave the doors beige with black uppers. Would love to do an Alcantara/Ultrasuede headliner. Not sure if you saw (can't remember the forum member name, had a thread on this subforum) his white e39 Touring done up in beige alcantara headliner and the M5 lux seats in beige. Looked SUPER clean...even for beige!

I did have to use the pass module due to mine not originally having folding mirrors (not sure if any non- M5 e39 did...maybe only certain overseas models??) A question for some of the senior members on here to answer.

Beige is one of those colors has to be done right, looks real classy with the Alcantara, very suttle until you realize what you are seeing. That suede just has an appeal that pulls you in. Super clean looking...did see the M5 he did do a great job, installing one takes dedication, planning, patience, time, and an extra set of hands. ECS has the pillars, but not the Alcantara, think $75ish...if you decide to do it down the road IM sure the members as well as myself want to see lots of pics when finished. IMO if youre going to keep the car its worth it, its not an inexpensive endeavor, not for everyone, and its one of those boarder line decisions.

Thanks for the mirror info, saw some people getting lucky on the modules and didn't need the passenger side, only the M5 had folding ones none of the E 39 came with that option couldn't even order it.

I believe I have an extra set of knobs. I bought a set from dealer not realizing I already bought a set with a previous order of parts. Let me dig them out and I will get back to you. Here’s a pic of mine:

Just confirm these are what you’re looking for and then PM me we can work out a deal...

Got some work to do this weekend. Just got in my new windshield cowl, lft and rgt outer cowl pieces, a new FSU, windshield washer tube system and some BMW oil and oil filter for later. HVAC blower has been acting up. Will not blow any air. Happened about a month ago then started working again. Checked fuses and they were fine. Compressor kicks on and off. Happened again a few days ago, so hoping the FSU is the culprit. Will check fuses again though.

Oh and waiting on my new rear M Tech bumper to arrive on Monday!

If Umnitiza plan on a half hour to unpack it,crazy how much cardboard they used.
Hardest part on the cowl is cleaning off the old rubber from the original. The new ones are one piece of plastic, with the 2 end pieces separate. Original rubber can crack break stick to the windshield and take extra time cleaning all of the deteriorated rubber off. The new one piece sits against the windshield / you may need to buy new retaining clips / holders / they fit and expand in the hole when screwed in, if not having new ones it may not sit flush. Its all plastic on the OEM replacement pieces, no more rubber lip fitting againts glass with the plastic cowl, but need those screw in clip pieces to keep it flush. Old ones may or may not work...

Thanks for the info guys. I got side tracked and didn't do a thing to it yet. Looks like I'll have time for the FSU today and the rest tmrw. I did get the 8 expandable rivets for the cowl. I actually ordered it from FCPEuro and the FSU and oil from OEMBimmerparts. All OE parts though.

Got the FSU in. Took all of 15mins. 5 of those spent trying to get the carpeted trim panel screw to align :S Old one looked fine and HVAC blew with it still in when I turned car on to move it around in garage. The cooling rods on the old one were slightly bent. It came out smooth so I assume it was bent on installation. Installed new one and all is good. I hope that was it and it's not the blower itself.
