    545i transmission limp mode

I recently purchased a 2005 545i and have had some transmission problems. It drives fine for a while but then randomly goes into limp mode and wont come out of first gear. It happens every time I drive it but after I turn the car off and back on, it goes away. It doesn't seem like there is a pattern to it either, it happens very randomly. I have already changed the fluid as well as the filter. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

You need to have the codes read.

When my 550 started doing this it led to a total transmission replacement

    Good luck

Get the codes read with a code reader that will read BMW specific error codes, not a generic code reader. Also, stop driving the car, less you inflect more damages to the transmission!

I have already pulled the BMW codes. The only transmission code I could find was 4F85. I have done some research and found that this code could mean anything from a bad mechatronics seal, to bad shift solenoids. Is this true??

Also, it’s worth mentioning that the engine and battery have recently been replaced on this car.

Make sure the new battery is becoming fully charged.
Google BMW code 4F85. It seems like you have a control module failure or an input shaft bushing failure, both inside the transmission.

Advice is what you ask for when you know the answer but wish you didn't.
