when i start the car in the morning or after it sits at work for 10 hours the steering wheel is hard to move left or right for a few seconds until i kind of force it to move. it then it loosens up.
power steering reservoir is full i've lift the front of the ground and move the steering wheel full left and right about 5 times each side looking for air pocket but found nothing.
second issue when driving on highway you know how sometimes on the highway there might be a slight bend to left or right as you go down the highway well on the slight left bend my steering wheel shakes like shimmering
the same to the right but not as noticeable as to the left tires are good air pressure is at 33 all the way around.
any suggestions or ideas as what to check and look for.?? thanks
i forgot to mention i hear a mid level groaning out of the power steering reservoir
Sound like your pump is on the way out. Flush PS fluid and change reservoir (it contains a filter).
Jack up the nose of the car and give front wheels a shake at 12 & 6 o clock, then 3 and 9 - see if you feel anything loose.
Plus one on the power steering fluid drain and refill. Worked wonders for my old car, no more groans AT ALL. Make sure to drain the pump as well.

thanks for the replies i'm just going to change the pump and be done with which trans fluid is recommended thanks
Sorry to necro a 15 day old thread, but I would like to know what kind of power steering fluid to use in my 2002 325xi.
ATF: Dexron III or higher.
Transmission fluid? I had thought the power steering fluid was another hydraulic fluid like brake fluid. I happen to still have some leftover Castrol Transmax Dexron VI ATF. Would that suffice? And how much would i need if i replace the power steering pump?
