e39 good drift project or not really

I'm a teen who wants to get into drifting and kind off want to drift a wagon. It seems like the e39 is easier to find than the e46 in just rwd where i live?

I think E46s are easier to find in manual transmission than E39s. Even with that, you want an E39 with a steering rack and not a box. On top of THAT, I don't think the aftermarket supports E39s as well as E46s.

Also, E39s are heavier than E46s and E46s are already quite heavy.

I consider anything over 3000 curb to be heavy.

Would an e36 be an option as it is the perfect budget driftcar in my opinion

theres a guy that drives clubloose that has (what looks to be) a bone stock 6 cyl e39 with the interior completely gutted minus the drivers seat and it makes it's way around the track better than some of the other cars ive seen. Theres a small shop by where I live that I bring my car from time to time that built a 540 with dual calipers and some other goodies that rips around pretty good too. As stated before though, e36/46 has better aftermarket support

MC- You hitting the clinic? I cant go since it's moved- sad story. I haven't gotten to see that e39, sounds sick, and I'll definitely keep an eye out for him!

Is it extremely hard to ditch the awd or is it a complete pain?

AWD chassis are at least the same as non AWD but you have to replace a TON to get them RWD. It's easier to get an automatic and manual swap than to remove all the front axle components.

I told them to refund me, might hit opening moves as long as my car is sorted after this weekend. That would mean only running one day at RSD for their opening weekends though... Can't decide.

Breadboy,, I think it'd be much better to run an e46 or e36. I find e46's are cheaper and plentiful if you know how to look for them, it just requires time put into the search. the extra aftermarket will be well worth it. On the other hand, having a relatively unique chassis is pretty awesome.

So I've come to the conclusion that ill drift and build whichever I get my hands on first, but definitely a wagon because I don't want to be normal. I really hope I will be able to start in a few years so ill probably just be a lurker for a while.

Whatever works. Wagon parts are hard to find tho. I had to replace the rear window in mine and it was either $1200 new, or LKQ from canada.

Thanks I found one for around 6 grand with all the rtab and that stuff done with m3 suspension and diff so that seems like a pretty good one for the price.

M3 diffs aren't good for drifting. They have this weird not really LSD in them. So don't just think an E46 M3 rear is good to go.

just realized you're in CO. That's Jeepster's wagon with the M3 rear swap for sale.

and yeah, m3 diffs arent good for drifting. They can be welded, but it takes a lot of donor parts from a different 210mm diff.

Dang now I really want to buy it. I guess I could put a different diff and just weld.

Not that easy. Subframe, driveshaft, rear axles, knuckles, brakes, etc are all different from M to Non-M.
