I've always wondered how these eBay and Amazon kits are. I know when I look up the install all I can find is people doing everything genuine BMW and using brake ducts and everything else that brings the cost way up, I would like to know if people really think they are needed or not, I do like to go fast lol. But awesome pickup!

I have a rep just like this but in polypropylene currently installed on my E39. Does it fit? Yep, it does. It even doesn't look half bad if you don't mind some fitment irregularities -- namely that it's going to be about 3/16" to 1/4" short of your wheel well line where it comes back to the fender. If you can live with that it's an excellent value. I thought it wouldn't bother me but it's started to bug me enough I'm in the process of repairing an OEM polycarbonate bumper that was cracked in multiple places.

Don't know if I'm allowed to promote this, but I'm selling a brand OEM M5 bumper + conversion kit parts here: https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...A-Pick-Up-Only

I guess you'd have no issues w/ fitment.

Wouldn't the OEM fender liner fix that issue? I thought that's what most people do to get the OEM look and fitment without all the extra stuff behind that bumper that make it very race car functional lol

The liners might pull the bumper back that far but I find it unlikely. My OE bumper fits snug and flush without them. I've read about some air dam parts behind the bumpers that may cause some of the issue with the reps but I never explored it after making the decision to stick with OE body panels.

As I stated originally if you're not completely OCD the reps fit "alright" and basically anybody that isn't an expert with these cars will likely not even notice the issue at all. I got a lot of compliments on the looks of the rep, and not a single person mentioned the bumper being too short.

I'll have to take pictures of my bumpers them because mine have a slight gap on the front and back, but on the side right near the corners, the front and side fits perfectly until the corner near the doors.

Top photo is the rep bumper and how it fits in relation to the fender/wheel well arch. I've never seen/heard of the rep bumpers not fitting like this; if you have rep bumpers that don't do this and maintain a reasonable and consistent gap top to bottom definitely share the source. Bottom photo is an OE BMW M5/Mtech rear bumper and how it fits with the rear quarter/wheel well arch.

Finally got the bumper painted and installed. It was an okay install not the easiest but not super hard you do have to play with it.
I have to tighten it up appropriately I have one side good and the other on zip ties I just didn't have time.
    .
    .
Anyone know a way to mount the license plates??

I have the same rep bumper and it's been holding up great. The PP material is durable and you can still use your oem lower bumper grille (m-tech or M5) on most of these rep bumpers. When it comes to mounting the license plate, I suggest not to drill holes on the bumper. In my opinion, a tow hook plate mounting holder is the way to go.

More conclusive evidence that the fit is far from perfect with these aftermarket bumpers. The lack of alignment with the fender line is quite pronounced. Wouldn't work for me, but that doesn't really matter -- glad you're happy with it!

What I don't understand is that if this has been an issue for years, why does the supplier not update the model? That flaw seems to be the only thing people get stuck on..

Best guess? Because they're still pumping them out and selling them at bargain-basement prices. Why bother fixing something that most E39 dude-bro's don't care about? $130 and 95% fitment is good enough for a lot of folks slapping a bumper on their $2,000 17 year old car. It only bothers those of us who have a little OCD about panel fitment...

OCD? Sounds like normal expectations from a part. But once again price drives a lot of people and as E39s become just another worn out high mileage cars it will be fate. Kinda like the Honda aftermarket wide body kits a few years ago. Looks ok, kind of, from 20 feet. Get closer and the fit and finish really sucks. Next up zip ties and universal parts.

Meanwhile, I was think of replacing all for door sill plates and trim pieces as they have a few scuff marks on my wagon and I am buffing the M5 for a concourse show in a few weeks...

To do the conversion to an M5 bumber on a non M5/w/o Aero package E39 takes more than just the bumper skin. Listed below are the ESC Kit showing all the parts necessary to do the job right. The kit provides ducts, clips, screws, etc.

I'd consider anybody who cares enough at this point to spend the money on OEM for their E39 fairly OCD, yes. I'm including myself in that group. Expectations from a $110 part are that it may need to be "massaged" to fit -- there's a reason the real thing costs $575 or more.

I believe this aftermarket part falls into the category of "Beat to fit".

If you live near a large metro area, search car-parts.com and you can find OEM M-tech bumpers for about $300, plus you'll have to paint them, for about a total cost of about $500. If you can get both front and rear bumper you should be able to save cash by painting at the same time. That's what I'm looking for. It's not cheap, but the bumpers come with all the fittings and brake vents, etc...

I've also recently jumped on this replica bumper train. Going on my $900 530i sport project car that had cracked OE bumpers. I do think any gap will be less noticeable on a black or dark color painted car.

The test fit without carrier looked fine, but others have commented the gap will be there once it's mounted to the bumper carrier. Have a look

    https://youtu.be/jpwFpRzDmGk

The rear bumper took about two weeks to arrive from CA to CT via Greyhound express
