I just picked up my first BMW, a 79 320i. I have owned 60's70's GM's all my life but have always loved the BMW's I paid $250 for it. It has a locked up engine so I think I'm going to swap it with another 320i engine. I also have a line on an early 2002 m10 engine which is in good condition and I could get for almost free. My car ran about a month ago so I know the fuel injection system is in good order. My question is will the FI parts on this car bolt on to an early M10 engine? I can't wait to get it running again and tuck those hideous bumpers.
It should work. the early E21's have basically the same long block configuration as the 2002. you will need to save everything from your old engine except for the block and head.
Okay so if I use the 71 engine, I can keep the existing head on it and add the FI parts from the 79 engine and it should work? Any other surprises I might be in for that you can think of? The car is really nice and definitely worth saving. Thanks for your response, much appreciated. Jim
Yup, as long as you have the original engine, your injectors are in the intake manifold.
