Hay I'm new to the forum. I have a 2000 Z3 2.5 I have been looking for a scanner/code reader reset tool. there are a lot of systems and a lot of opinion's on what's the best and would appreciate help from people who personally have experience with them. my car has the round port in the engine compartment and the 16 pin OBD ll on the side of the console. thanks
Tell us what you are looking for in a scanner.
Handheld standalone?
Just reading and clearing codes?
Logging / viewing live data?
More advanced things like coding and swapping modules?
Budget?
Do you have a Windows laptop?
There are many options, but the best is what is best tailored for you.

I just went through the process of getting the INPA up and running, per this thread: http://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/sh...xperimentation
I had an old Windows 7 laptop that is now dedicated to it. I bought the 2 cables from the "trusted Chinese seller". I am not a computer guy, but took the challenge when one pundit said if I could operate the doors (or something like that),
I could do this. He was right. The main thing is to read the instructions until they make some sense (not all those computer words, just that you think you can follow them), then follow them exactly. Be meticulous and patient, and you will
reap the rewards.
What's your budget?
thank you for responding sorry took so long to answer. I am looking for a scanner to be used by a back yard mach. I am looking for a good quality tool for the money able to read codes with reset abilities.
