Hello everyone, my first post here ( I think).
I've just acquired a 1993 325is 5 speed. Upon buying the car it had a small issue, the cluster not working. The speed, rpm, gas and temp do not function as well as the odometer for the miles. The only things that turn on are the turning signal lights, and the bottom portion of the cluster where you have the check engine light, brake light ect.
I did some research and tried the cluster test, but nothing happens when I try to do it. I figured it might just be the cluster.
Today, I went today to the junkyard a found one from a 325i but same year only a 4 door. Ended up buying it and swapping it, it literally does exactly the same as my other cluster. Scratching my head here
Google has not been really good at finding what I'm looking for. The only thing I found was a thread on bimmerfest of a guy who was having a similar issue with his e36, but his would work for a couple of days and stop and go back running again. He mentioned that his driver tail light was messed up and that made it malfunction. My passenger tail light does not work upon braking everything else is fine. I will look at it tomorrow clean it up and check the bulb. Any fuses or something else I should look for?
Any input is appreciated it.
Based on the 1993 ETM for the cluster there are fuses 22 5A, 27 5A, 32 5A, 46 15A, Park/Tailights fuse 22, 33, 37

Today I ended up pulling out the tail light, there's water inside and it's pretty corroded. I tried to clean it up as much as possible, but no luck. Either way, I will be purchasing one at the end of the week and see what it does. I will check those fuses tomorrow. Thank you for the input.

I ended up getting a different tail-light. Upon further inspection, the connection was different from my cars. In the tail-light connection, there are 8 inputs. My old one has 4 connections on top and 2 on the bottom (horizontally), the new tail-light has 4 connections on top and 2 on the bottom (vertically). All lights work except the right blinker (but I had that issue already). I know the top 4 are for the main lights, but what about the bottom two?
see owners manual US version http://www.mikerophonerecords.com/bimmer/e36manual.pdf
On the EURO version taillight there are.., lets take the left rear side from left to right:
top: turn signal light, reverse light
bottom: rear foglight, taillight, brake light

All of them checked good.
On the image below, you can see different types of pins. The one I bought it's like the first one on the left, the one that my car previously had was like the middle image. Does two bottom pins make a difference of how the are arranged?

User's manual only indicate what type of bulbs to replace, unless I looked in the wrong section.
