2004 530i crank shaft position sensor circuit A fault

I know that there are a number of posts regarding this (I have scoured the net) but I am at a loss. What began as an intermittent issue now has my car dead in my driveway. I scanned the car and received the crank shaft position sensor circuit A fault error. I changed the sensor with an aftermarket sensor and nothing changed. I then put in a bmw sensor and still no change. I have no pressure at the fuel rail when the key is turned on. I can not hear the pump kick on when the key is turned to on. I have not yet checked for voltage at the pump. Is it possible to have a bad pump and not get the fuel pump error notification? The car turnes over and will sputter occasionally but will not idle. Can a fuel pump problem show as this code? I don’t want to beat a dead horse but my next stop is the shop. Any help is appreciated.

Yes you can have a bad pump with no code. You wont get a code on older cars. Check for voltage at the pump and go from there. Check fuses etc.

Aftermarket sensors can give you bad results too with no code,

Assume the crank position sensor is properly seated. They can be a bear to get seated properly, with no indication it isn't in. Other than not starting.
