    Pulse Genearator E34 harness swap

    First off Hello Guys. It's my pleasure to make your acquaintance. I know I'm at the right place. To get the info & help I need. So your assistance well be GREATLY Appreciated. I'm trying to sort through some wiring issues I have with a 85 745i Executive Edition I recently acquired. I aim to restore the vehicle back to spec. I am aware this is probably going to be a long process figuring out the wire rigging and acquiring the hard to find parts. So let's begin, as I understand the previous owner had a start up issue. He stated he bypassed the pulse generator with an E34 harness because it sends the same signal to the ECU as the Original 745i Pulse Generator part # 12121286148 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagid=12_0102 It's #14 on the diagram. He States the bypass was necessary because the other side the pulse generator plugged into, broke. An is No longer Available. Any idea what this pulse generator plug into that's NLA ? He says there's a intermediate plug in between 14 and were 3 wires are plugged into Hence E34 wire Harness. You guys are the experts, Any Ideas ? Like I said before. Any & all help is Greatly appreciated.

    Thanks Guys. I see this post has been viewed over a hundred times. But there is not one reply. I understand you all are quite busy & if it doesn't peak you interest you'll probably ignore the post.
    But I thought this forum was a way to exchange info & share our experiences. A way to help our fellow E23 Owners keep these Beautiful Machines on the road. I'm sure we all love our cars and appreciate it when someone appreciates Our Prized Automobiles. You know in this day an age a lot of dealerships dread seeing these cars either being towed or driven into their shop. An forget about taking it to the neighborhood Butcher 9 times out of ten they don't anything about the car. The older guys that do know the cars are either retired, charge you out the A because they have the knowledge and know how. An the rest are just who knows. Especially with a E23 745i. A lot of you guys been through all most everything the car could take you through. So you know It's pitfalls and even better You Know THE CAR. All I'm asking is for A LOT of help to keep this Magnificent Machine Alive Crispy Clean & Pristine. ENJOY THE RIDE

    Hello! The link you posted doesn't work. I'm not fully understanding your question. Are you saying the PO used a b35 vr sensor & crank trigger wheel? Or are you referring to the lead on the ignition wire?

    Well, it is PIQUE your interest if you are going to be a smart ass. You are not going to be given 'A LOT' of help without 'A LOT' given back to everyone here and lots of studying done on your own. You are going to have to do research on your own how to keep your car running. I have posted enough information here to keep your 745i on the road. If you search, there is more than sufficient data to stay up for days on end reading to make your eyes bleed.

    We all have day jobs. We all have real lives. We all have families. I am one of the few that can help you and you assuming I have time to drop everything to help you is BEYOND comical. You have no idea what I have been doing in the past year. Your trouble with the wiring is of absolutely no consequence to me.



    Here is your answer:

    The sensor in question does nothing for start up. Its sole job relates to detonation (knock) detection and regulation. Without it, there is no detonation protection on the engine. It will still start, drive, boost, shift, etc.

    B35 spark wire sensor (pulse generator) outputs same signal as the 745i specific unit (M70 too), except it is readily available to purchase. You may find the 745i sensor available as old stock, yet last I heard it was NLA. If the engine side plug is trash, I am not sure what to tell you. I would convert my car to the B35/M70 plug if needed, you are not working on a Ferrari Daytona here. Down side with the OE plug is the connection plug is round versus flat, so the B35/M70 is not a direct swap. I have never seen that round plug for sale anywhere as a replacement, maybe you can find it and tell everyone about it. That would be giving back to the community.

    If you look for the engine side plug from a B35 or M70, you should be fine. It is a very basic signal sent back.

    Hey gixxerboy the PO stated he used a e34 harness because the port where the pulse generator connected to broke and the car would not crank or turn over. He was advised to bypass it. It worked. It now starts every time I turn the ignition but I do not like it's appearance of the wires as they are exposed reveling the soldered connections. I'm am not that proficient with the wiring of this or any other vehicle. What would you advise?.

    Taking the easy way to fix this:
    1. Cut the wires near soldered connections
    2. strip/clean
    3. install heatshrink tubing
    4. resolder
    5. heat tubing to shrink

    done
