Collective: Clutch recommendation please...

I know, I know, not again...

But this time it's a little different.

1993 325is
Extreme weight reduction - 2,400-ish dry
Sticky wide tires - 285/30-18 Continentals or 295/30-18 Hoosiers
OS Giken LSD with 3.46 FD
500-ish whp, 400-ish (max) ft/lbs
2.0l Honda (yes, Honda) K20A2 4 cylinder motor
EFR 7163 twin scroll on E85
ZF trans

I need a clutch that can handle the power and not be a bear for street driving. The torque "could" hit hard in the low RPMs if the turbo behaves as expected. I'll likely be in the 18-20psi range. I'm looking at the Clutchmasters FX300 or FX350. The hard charging will all be in 1st and 2nd gear for autocross so the "beating" per se on the clutch will be minimized as the torque multiplication in the lower gears will overwhelm the tires long before the clutch is loaded very hard.

I assume your going to need a honda clutch and flywheel with a BMW spline hub in the disc(s) so probably not going to get much help from this group.

Do you have that engine in your car now? Should be a good match and a lot of fun. I assume it’s lighter and located further back than an M50 based motor?

Nope on the Honda clutch. E46 5 speed ZF clutch, custom flywheel and adapter plate (KMiata stuff). Engine is not in the car yet. But yes, the expectations are exactly as described.

The clutch and or converter is the heart of the car. Whereast teh oil pan is heart of engine.

If I was building anything. It doesn't matter what. Put all your money into the heart. Get the longest lasting, multi plate if necessary (some singles do just fine).

Being it’s a torqueless 4 popper you should be fine with a single with a cerametalic disc. The uuc cerametalic is a really nice driving clutch.

Don't get me wrong, I think it will be a neat setup and I have a healthy respect for the honda motors. But it will sound like a blender.

Oh, I was also going to mention, I don't know if there is any truth to it but I have heard the E36 5 speed ZF is supposed to be a much nicer shifting trans than the E46 ZF. Don't know if thats true, never driven an E46 but something to look into. Fitment should be the same I think.

I was a Honda guy for 25+ years before switching to my E36 back in 2011. Guess you can call it the best of both worlds for me. And I've pretty much fallen in love with my wife's little Fiat 500 Abarth 1.4 4 cyl turbo. It comes from the factory with no muffler/resonators. Just the cat and it sounds SWEET!! And it not totally gutless either. I hope my build sounds as good as this little beast.

I am using the E36 ZF, so no worries there. Just need to do the shift detents and replace the output shaft seal and it'll be good to go. It's just the custom flywheel and release bearing that are designed/manufactured around the dimensions of the E46 clutch disc/pressure plate.
