So I am trying to remove my steering wheel to get to the cluster to replace the gears. In doing so I have the airbag removed and also did the 22mm nut and went to pull wheel off and nothing. Did it on my buddy's 86 325i and worked fine. Is there something I'm missing? The wheel has some slight play in it now. Still drives fine. I tried using a puller and same. Are there any other hidden bolts?

did you put the key in the ignition to unlock the steering lock mechanism?
Yeah put it in and unlocked it. Used a puller and it can out about 1/2 inch and is stuck. Was going to try some more tonight once I get out of work see if I can find anything

You don't need to remove the steering wheel to remove the cluster in a 1992 318ic e30. It will still slide out.
I learned that the hard way by removing mine to change cluster bulbs with battery connected and get the ABS light. Second time i removed it (to change Odometer gears) I left the wheel on and it was a little more difficult but came out fine.
I realize it may be irrelevant to your situation now but for future reference..

I am still suspecting there is an issue with the steering lock pin. It seems it's hanging up and not allowing it to slide off. This is why it still feels loose when you tried to put it back on. it's not seating properly.
Is there any kind of a blownup diagram available that shows the pin location?

try here I haven't checked though: www.realoem.com
How did you get the flat piece that sits on the dash to clear the upper plastic steering column cover....seems there is a lip that will not clear that cover
