    E36 Weight

Can someone tell me generally what a stripped down E36 is gonna come in at or point me to the thread? I can't find any specific topics.

    1995 E36 M3
Removed all stock interior except the dash, added 2 Sparco Evo seats, roll bar, carbon sunroof delete, lightweight battery ~14lbs, a/c delete, and the only glass is windshield and rear (rear quarters are Plexiglas cutouts). Anyone venture a guess? 2800?

Depending on how much fuel, I would say 2700-2750.

Probably 2800-2850 if you still have the heater core and door windows

No door windows. Does have core. I even heated and scrapped up all the sound deadening in the tub and removed the trans tunnel blanket for heat tape.

yea, 2800 is prob right. Our 325i is 2600 with a quarter tank of gas and no driver...but we cut the doors down to nothing and still have more to cut.

Curious do you have both seats in the car?

See Post #33 of my previous build. Gutted interior except dash and stock front seats, no rollbar, heat, A/C, and power windows still functional. The weight was 2,680 without driver and with the fuel light on.

No that's our champcar race weight with no cool suit. With the seat, mounts, and belts it prob adds 35 pounds or so. We gutted the trunk lid completely, gutted the front doors, and we still have to cut out the rear doors and rear deck lid. Our biggest weight savings tho was moving from our stock exhaust to the bimmerworld race exhaust. Only the front windshield is glass. All rubber door seals have been pulled as well. We still have a lot of the stock wiring under the dash left and some other random bits we could cut out.

Awesome. Thanks. I would love to come in under 2700.

I'm pretty close to that. Any resources on wiring. I'm scared to death to cut and remove with the DME or whatever that security crap is on this car.

Haven't really looked into it yet, still trying to cut all the other weight out first. Working on the bumper supports (Cut them down, should net about 10lbs out of both combined), and then the hood support structure. I imagine its a nightmare just looking at all that wiring....but we will prob do that last if I was a betting man. Also keep in mind we have a full cage in the car as well.

Mine is right at 2800 with a half tank of gas. S54 conversion with full glass, power windows, full cage, two race seats/harnesses, cool suit rig, no AC, standard battery. I believe S54 adds about 50#, so I would think you could easily get down to 2700.

For wiring, this post in my build has the basics of what I did. Make a list of what you want to keep, get comfy with the ETM, label every plug when disconnecting, and prepare to spend a lot of hours tracing wires and verifying before you cut. It's long and tedious but the end result is well worth it.

As for the weight.. I'm really curious to see what my car weighs next week. Fully stripped interior, thinned chassis harness, gutted doors, stock glass and side window glass, full aero, etc. I'll post up what it is next week.

This is a fully caged car with me in it (220lbs) and a 1/4 tank of gas, full glass. Full racecar setup though. Also note this is the first weight after building the car. I have to ballast about 200lbs for my class and will use that weight to get a 50/50 weight distribution in the car.

I just went through the process of a major thinning of my harness and I ended up bricking my car, even after starting after every connector cut. The culprit? The right hand dash relay wires were loose after working on all of the connectors. I also had a previous auto conversion park conversion wire come loose. It took a while to figure this all out... It's not that bad though. Just be meticulous...

Mine came in at 1298kgs (2861lbs) with
    Full tank, no driver
    Stripped interior except dash
2 sparco seats on Vac mounts.
    Carbon sunroof delete
    Half cage
    Stock battery
    Stock glass
Stock electrics (except stereo harness removed)
    Still had AC.
    17x9 Apex wheels
3" exhaust with cat, resonator, muffler.

So yours should be a good chunk lighter with the plexi, smaller battery and no air con.

I got my 93 325is down to 2,380 with all interior panels, but lots of other weight reduction efforts. No cage but still full interior (rear seat delete, lightweight front seats but the rest of the interior is still there).

With or without the motor? Scale is off by 500 lbs?

Would like to know what you did.
