Somone help me with this one.my scanner says it has no information on this code
Welcome to the Forum!
So what is the scanner you are using? The fact that it is giving you a "P-Code" tells me it is a pocket scanner. I think that pocket scanner are a waste of money, they are only good for confusing a person. Now if you owned a Ford or Chevy, then it would be the proper diagnostic tool to use.
So on the E-36, the better/best tool to use is INPA. If you have an older laptop, or even a newer one, you just need the 20 pin round connector cable and the program.

+1 !!!
If you Google that P-code, you'll find "Fuel pressure regulator control". In fact, you can even find a couple of BMW forum threads that insist that you change the fuel pressure control module -- on cars even older than yours! Your car has absolutely no way for the computer to see fuel pressure. If the computer can't read the fuel pressure, it can't tell you that it's bad.
OBD codes are emissions warnings, written by bureaucrats, and they are generally gross mistranslations of the information which is stored in your BMW's computer. You need to be able to read the actual BMW codes.
Wild-assed guess: you have a large intake/ccv system leak, and you'll need a smoke-test, after seeing the ACTUAL code, to find the leaks. That said, the fuel filter IS a maintenance replacement item, and your car's probably about 10 years overdue for a new one.

yup, there are numerous threads on this code if you do a quick search. seems like most folks fixed it with some type of mixture related part - meaning, vacuum leaks, etc.
but, as mentioned - we really need the bmw codes and not the P codes....

I just had this code come up today, along with P1188. Both were identified by the Actron site as "Manufacturer Controlled Fuel and Air Metering" I learned through additional web surfing that it may be a loose or cracked crank case ventilation hose or some other similar issue related to vacuum leaks in the system. I didn't really notice any effect on engine performance at idle or under acceleration. In poking around under the hood, I noticed the oil dipstick wasn't seated in the dipstick tube (it was sticking out about an inch - not sure why that would have occurred). It has a couple of O-rings on it that apparently help to keep the system sealed when it is fully inserted. I re-inserted it, re-set the codes, drove around for about 20 minutes and the check engine light is still off. I'll report an update if it comes back on.
yup, that's what we suggested - although, since it's a p-code even a suggestion is little more than a wild guess.

I've since upgraded my OBDII device to Blue Driver. The bluetooth connected iPhone app provides much more diagnostic information. Works on my Jag and X3 too.
I have never heard of BMW making a Soul EV, so who makes that car?
