My mistress, as my wife calls my car, is a 2011 128i cabrio with an automatic transmission. In the last couple of weeks I have an intermittent problem with shifting when the car reaches operating temp. The shifts from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd are silk smooth. The next three shifts cause a vibration that feels like I'm running over a rumble strip on the side of the road. The vibration is noticeable and continues until I let up on the gas and the trans shifts to the next higher gear. If I drive in Sport mode and manually shift from gear to gear there is no problem or vibration. Using manual the shifting normal and perfect. The car just turned 60K miles. Anyone have a similar experience? How did you fix it/
Th first step is to scan both the engine computer (DME) and whatever BMW calls the transmission computer for codes. The Service Engine Soon (SES) light is on only when an emissions related code is present. Have the transmission fluid and filter ever been changed? Nows a good time to cfsnge them.
As Marco suggests, you are going to have to communicate with, and scan the BMW computer modules present in your vehicle to obtain any BMW fault/error codes.
You will be needing a BMW scan tool/software to attempt that, or visit a dealership or BMW specialist shop.
