Hi,
My F10 started making this loud fan noise the past couple of days, and now on the highway, I got the message saying:
"Engine temperature high"

What could be the issue? Can I try something on my own first before taking it to a mechanic?
Any help appreciated.
Happened to me a few months ago. Water pump needed replacing.
Textbook failed waterpump....
DME sends maximum PWM to engine cooling fan due to coolant pump stopage.
Stop driving the car and have it towed to a competent repair shop.

Thanks! how much should I expect to pay for part and labour to fix this?
Here in Houston you're looking at about $1300 parts/labor to do water pump and thermostat.
