    New to E70 World - 12/09 4.8 xdrive

Hey X5 members. New to X5 world, but not new to BMW's. Owned many of them over the years (see sig).

Just picked up a 2010 4.8i Xdrive in Spacegrau with black interior. 7 seater, rear DVD system, loaded, including soft close doors. First kid is on the way, and I wanted my lady in an X5 instead of our current VW TDI wagon.

I'd like to do some very slight modifications to it, so here's where I thought I'd ask.
I've done some basic research already, hoping people here can confirm what I've learned and answer a couple of questions:

    1. Car currently has 18's on it (style 209 5-spoke). Would like to go up to 20's or even 21's. What are the stock tire sizes for 20's? E70's have 72.56mm center bore like E39's, right? So I'll need to add rings if I grab wheels from something else? (I was planning on sticking with X5 wheels though, maybe 214 or 215.)

    2. LCI retrofit options: it appears LCI tails are plug and play? No wiring adapters needed like I needed for my E90? Will I need to recode the car for them? (that's no issue though if need be)
2a. LCI bumpers: front will require replacing fenders, but is the rear just a straight swap?
2b. What about preLCI M-technic bumpers? I'll need to replace the fender trim and the side skirts, correct?

    3. Lowering options? Would like to slightly hunker it down. What are my best options? Don't want to slam it.

    4. Will want to remove the rear muffler and weld in a pair of resonators to new tips. 2.5" is exhaust OD, I believe?

    5. Found a cheap headlight switch out of Europe with the rear fog button. It was a direct replacement to enable rear fogs on my E90, is it the same with the E70? Just plug in the new switch and go?

    6. Any other easy/simple/affordable OEM+ type modifications I should look at?

Pics if people want, but it's just your generic 4.8 in spacegrau

    Sad, huh?

I dunno what it is with most, if not all Beemer sites, the amount of responses is dismal. Then again, I'd bet that most owners don't want to change anything on their rides. Which blows my mind, btw.

Ah well, I'll fumble along on my own and figure it out as I go.

Welcome! Sorry, I cannot help you with your questions so much, as I don’t have such technical knowledge. But on my 09 diesel, I have 20” 214’s the front is a 275x40 r 20 and the rear is 325x35 r 20(it’s a staggered setup, I think some people have a square setup with 20”s, but staggered is standard I believe) I would check up on the legality of spacer rings, they are totally illegal here unless from the factory.
I don’t see why a switch replacement would be anything other than plug and play, mostly it should be.

OP, you're in the wrong crowd here. Looking at your past cars you are on the old Bimmer mod crowd, like me. Love to wrench on these things. BTW, I love my e34 525i too (yes, its also a slug).

This crowd is more of the keep t stock and keep it running, and most will not do the big DIYs we're used to, but the X5 e70 is a pricey vehicle compared to our older cars, and not really made to be modded. I just did my VCGs, spark plugs and coils, and this thing was a royal PITA to work on, took me about 3 hours just to get to the cover, and this is the inline 6. Then, I had to figure out how to remove the cover without breaking it since its so far back in the engine compartment. Took me a day and half just for the VCG!

I'm learning more about it though. Use this site if you're not aware of it yet, https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/, it's the TIS for the more modern cars.
