By the way - love the idea of the dark blue. Black is classic but boring unremarkable obvious undistinctive. Maybe a super dark blue that almost looks black would be good tho'. Carbon black kinda deal. In fact... how about BMW carbon black?
Or perhaps a Lemans Blue. Or there is a beautiful Blue Ford makes as well. Keep it Blue Oval Thunder.

Is it First On Race Day or backwards Driver Reutrns On Foot ?

I was wondering what happened to you, almost sent you and email to see where you were.
Figured you were either chipping ice off the driveway or shoveling snow.
I hear there is a 12" snow fall coming your way on Tuesday. Better get the snow shovel and snowblower chute waxed up.

I'm thinking that dark Ford blue, will get the actual name soon.

I'll check out Lemans Blue, it may be too light.
I like First on Race Day better. Never hear of the backwards before, pretty good though.

Finally got a FedEx shipment from MA, took 8 days. Snow storms and no power back in MA set me back about 4 days.
Think this last storm took them down again, I've been calling them for the last 2 days, no answer.
Anyways I did get the front suspension completed today. The foam on the frame is to protect the powder coating.
Those parts on the floor behind the drivers front wheel are the electric power steering parts from Unisteer.
All the suspension use Zerk fittings, haven't had a car with those in 20+ years.

Electro-hydraulic (as in electrically-powered hydraulic pump) or full electric rack?

    The rack is totally manual.
The parts in the pic are the electric part, no hydraulics involved at all.
The steering wheel connects to the left side input shaft, the right side goes to the rack.
When you turn the wheel the control box senses movement and applies power to the motor to assist in turning the wheels.

Huh. Neat. No messy hydraulics to deal with, and no expensive hoses to make/run.

    Wicked progress Jim!

And I can't wait to hear how that electric assisted power steering feels for you. That's pretty cool.

Is there a cooling fan for the power steering pump? Having picked up a 2003 Mini CooperS, the reason I was able to snatch it up super dirt cheap was because the cooling fan burnt out, in turn cooking the power steering pump, turns out to be a typical issue on the Mini’s.

My truck (2012 f150) is electric only steering. I just learned this 2 weeks ago when I felt pretty dumb for not being able to find the reservoir. As for how it feels, it’s a truck, and I didn’t realize there was no pump for 80k miles and 6 years. So it feels normal (on a truck). Love the idea of no pump, no hoses!

Looking forward to see how the electric steering works too. No pump or any hydraulics, totally electric drive from the Electra-Steer gearbox.
You can power the control box down and then it's completely manual, no assist.

The Highlander has electric steering too. Just after we bought it last year I was looking for the PS reservoir, couldn't find it. If I didn't read the manual I'd never have known it was electric too.
All those moving dollies let me move it around to get more room to work on different areas.

Christmas almost every day, need to get all of the open boxes of parts installed so I can open more boxes.
Oxford Green, maybe a 3rd choice. I'm a long way from painting it.

Redshift, not as boring (depressing?) as S/C'ing an M5 and then taking all the parts off to sell along with selling the car....
Working on my 540 is almost as clean as putting the '33 together.

Starting to get serious now. Need to get my neighbor over to give me a hand lifting the body off the chassis.
It's maybe 75lbs, just too big for one person to do.

Oh, Jim, I knew you'd come back with a smartaleck reply. You didn't disappoint, brother!

I sold the OTHER M5, not the one that had the SC. I still own that one. Just bought a cheap-a$$ E46 M3 from a friend to part out as well.

Yeah man! Oxford Green 2 is an awesome color! Green was always my favorite color even when I was a little kid. My dad had a bunch of British Racing Green Mini Coopers, and MGB's and I had a '69 MGC in British Racing Green metallic. I'm thinking, if I ever do another classic British car, it will get OG2 this time, but with about 10 wet sanded layers of clear to give it the proper depth that it deserves. Love the OG2 on the wagon, My little nieces call it the Snot Rocket. If Jim wisely chooses that, I label the '34, The Snot Rod. The '03 Cooper S I got recently is British Racing Green, but it is pretty much identical to the OG2 on my wagon, I wonder if it is the same color code 430.

Brian! PM me some prices for 6 speed, and S54, and even the steering wheel if they are in good shape, if you are parting the M3 out.

LOL, brother Redshift.....just had to match your zing. Good to hear you still have an M5.

Snotty, maybe I'll get a pint of oxford green stuff to spray one panel to see if it will look OK on my '33.
Sorry it won't be called the Snot Rod. I'm working on a vanity plate name, more on that later.

As to calling it the Snot Rod, haha! Maybe I'll have to get my stuff in higher gear, order the F5 '33 truck one day.
