You didn't really just say that Jim, clearly your account has been hacked.
Yeah someone call the internet police

I wonder how cheaply somebody could build a Factory Five if using only used/junkyard parts. I don’t think I could ever justify buying a brand new engine when the junkyard ones are so cheap and easy to rebuild.

Might want to cork it up when you first fire it. Any issues will be tough to hear over the noise. Plenty of opportunities later to piss off the neighbors.
This looks like a really cool project and reading through your thread reminds me that I've promised myself to do a ground up build of my own, someday, and the clock is ticking.
Congratulations and enjoy!
If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
Danny, the basic kit in $20K and then you need a drivetrain. You can get a drivetrain from the junkyard as well as wheels and tires and what ever else you desire. Lots of options can be bought.
Buying a wrecked Mustang for parts is frequently done. I don't have a place to keep a wreck....HOA rules.
I looked for used LS3 engines and tranny, but most had 100K+ miles and were about 1/2 the price of a new one. They came with a 3 month warranty however your warranty would be up before you finished the car.
You could get a 5.0 Mustang engine for much less but I wanted an new LS3, tranny, and LSD IRS so I sprung for new everything. The GM connect and cruise package came with a 2 year warranty.
For what I've got into at this point you could buy a REALLY nice car, I've always wanted a '33 street rod with over the top HP so I'm blowing a lot of dough on this build.

Mach, that's a really nice over the top build.

It does have 2 mufflers, 2 of my neighbor's are car guys, the rest will probably be pissed off.
The first start will be without mufflers, just because.

Haven't got too much done, had a bunch of company that we took to Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Peak.
The Ididit steering column finally arrived, got that installed yesterday. Haven't done much on the wiring.
The electric steering motor will be the next thing I do.
Also mounted the HVAC box on the top inside of the firewall.

Jim, that is looking more and more like a total riot about to be had.
Do you have any expectation of what the F/R weight distribution might be with driver in the car?
Thad, without a driver a guy put it on scales and found it to be 50.1F and 49.9R.
That is excellent! I'm thinking the driver probably adds to rear weight more than front in that car??
Had a great time, even though hiking up and down the Guadalupe and then 8 stories down into the caverns and then up (elevator broken) the very next day.
My legs were toast.
Think I could see Manny wrenching on the chain guide job from the top of Guadalupe peak, it's the highest point in TX, ~8700'

Threw the floor in to see how much room I'd have to hide some of the wiring....not much.
Then decided to put the seats in, just because.

Hi Jim,
That hotrod is coming along beautifully!!
Love that steering wheel !! Hopefully you won’t get a bad burn with all that chrome on that steering wheel. It’s looks perfect in the hotrod.
You got good tast Jim!! Now you can really say it’s too hot to handle.
They are supposed to install new elevators at the Caverns. I believe a month ago some tourists got stuck in the elevator and they had to be pulled out thru the top of the elevator.
I enjoyed the same lovely hike there last time I visited there ( them elevators!!). I remember going there since a yougan!!
Is Gaudalupe Peak in Big Bend National Park?
I’ve been wanting to Visit Big Bend National Park.
As for me, the guides are on hold till I return from vacation from on Corpus Christi, Tx. Doing some fishing and relaxing on the beach.
Need a change of scenery from my desser oasis !
Your work is always so inspiring!!

Manny, Guadalupe is about 45 min south of Carlsbad, but in western TX.
I've been to Big Bend in the past. Don't go in the summer.
Been a while since I posted on any progress.
The electric steering is all mounted and working. Had to make a custom mounting bracket to mount it to the firewall.
Normally it would mount down low but with the LS3 engine a different ($300+) oil pan would be required.
Can't really tell how much assist it will provide until it has tires on it and sitting on the ground.
Got the fuel tank and pump in, all the lines run to the regulator and engine. The evap purge canister is hooked up.
Started chopping up the exhaust getting ready to do some tig'in but got tired of doing it so I switched over to the wiring.
Mounted the body fuse box, still need to do the LS3 fuse box.

It's still Christmas, the UPS guy came again today. Needed this to crimp all of the AC lines.

Whoa, damn Jim! That crimper looks serious. What does something like that cost, and where do you get all of the hose ends and whatnot you need to fab up your lines?
Progress is looking great Jim. Clever bracket! Is there a gap between the electric motor and the firewall? Be good for making weird vibrations an noises if it just barely touching! LOL. Is any insulation needed since headers are pretty close? I'm afraid to ask what that crimp set cost? Likely a few pairs of shoes for the misses!
