Yeah, I have used that mesh/braided stuff also - both the split and the braided non-split kinds - that's a good middle ground between the plastic and the tape. You can put some shrink wrap on the ends and a harness will look really nice. To Jim's point tho the tape takes up the least space, for tidy permanent installs. The cool thing about the not-split braided is that it can expand/shrink for a good fit over a range of diamters. If you pull it tight, it shrinks down, if you 'bunch it up' it gets bigger up to a point.

I was kinda wishing a bought the 3/4" stuff instead of the 1/2" version. I did manage to bunch it up like GG said so it worked fine.
Been slowly working on the PITA exhaust, still isn't finished but I'm making progress.
Last week I got Factory Five to send me the new revised fuel tank, it has the fill port at the very top instead of in the middle of the tank.
Santa Claus showed up again today to drop off 4 boxes. Pretty sure he'll be here again tomorrow with more stuff.

Looks really nice Jim! Exhaust can really be a PIA. Looks like they supplied a "kit" of exhaust pipes. Or did you have to buy pieces yourself? What is the issue? Hard to match up front? Maybe move onto other parts of the car and have a local shop finish out the exhaust?

DAMN! Yes, those wheels are amazing!

Philly, the exhaust pieces came with the car. I bought a set of headers that isn't plug and play with their exhaust, I knew I'd be on my own there. The directions don't say exactly where to mount the muffler, just a pic which isn't exactly correct.
The pipes after the muffler snake thru the chassis and have less that 1/4" clearance in some locations so the position of the mufflers is pretty important so those pipes don't hit. Normally you would start at the engine and everything would just fall in place but I need to start at the muffler, get that and everything past it mounted, then I can figure out the header collector to the muffler part.
I love these wheels. They are black chrome.
Front tires are 235/45/17, rears are 295/35/18.
Tires should be here tomorrow morning, I hope.
Reminds me of the E39 M5's Shadow Chrome finish. Very nice.

Such a beaut, Jim. Plans to squeeze as well?
Nate, yes it does have a small trunk, probably big enough for 2 small suitcases, a jack, some tools, a small air compressor, and a few cans of fix-a-flat. There is no spare tire, a small donut spare might fit if there was only one suitcase.

Maybe in the future a small shot, nothing like what I have on my 540.
The LS3 and tranny are brand new and come with a warranty so I'm going to play it safe for now.
Maybe a cam upgrade before the juice.
Finally got the wheels and tires ordered and delivered last week. Had the tires mounted and balanced this morning.
Fronts are 235/45/17's.
Rears are 295/35/18's.
I also got most of the exhaust connected and the pipes from the mufflers rearward insulated.
Still need to insulate the mufflers and connect the header collectors to the mufflers.
I've got 3 options for the exhaust, 2 from Factory Five and one of my own.

I like the old school oval tips, personally. Quad tips seem kinda overwrought.

Oh good lord Jim, those wheels are SIIIIIICK!!
Those some meats on there! Love it. Personally I like the ovals too, but I really need to see the body in place to fully pick.

Whoa nellie, Jim!
Who calls dibs on the e39 when he’s finally ready?! 🤔
I'd go with the quads as a subtle homage to the M5

Same here, go with the quads, pure business! Awesome Jim!

My vote is for the oval. Nice build!!
I vote for the oval tips. They have a classic look that complements the car.
Strong work Jim.

The chassis must always be regarded as a means to an end and never as an end itself
Both are great choices Jim, I’d go for the quad exhaust, rig up a spark plug in there to make sparks come out those pipes!!
And a purg valve in the hood..
The Hot rod is coming along great!

Last I heard, he’s about to test drive the chassis around the neighborhood. Betting at least two people complain about all the racket, always some bozos around who don’t think others should be having such a good time....
