Thad, I found it on eBay for $125, most other places that sell this one want $200-250 for it.
All of the fittings and AC hose came with the Factory Five Vintage Air kit.

Philly, yes there is a gap between the mounting plate and the firewall. I need to put some insulation in there to keep engine heat out of the cabin. No worry about leaking oil smell, this isn't a BMW engine...lol.
I have some metal insulation to put between the headers and the PS and also on the other side too to keep the heat off the starter.
Only a few pairs of shoes???? She was out shopping with a neighbor yesterday when the UPS guys came, 3 new pairs!

Got more electrical done . Didn't like all the room the plastic corrugated tubing took up so I stripped it off a lot of the cables and used automotive cloth tape that Paul was using. It really cut down on the size of the cable.
Mounted the GM ECU and its fuse box and well as the PS controller and the tranny controller.

These are the 2 cables that I wrapped with cloth tape.
    DSCN1890.JPG

Now I can route both cables up around the HVAC box and fit them behind the firewall.

Nice tape winding. Looks way better and cleaner than plastic tube stuff. Lots going on in there! Are you getting some good beer drinking time in the garage?

If by "stuff," the question is about the loom tape, I'd be interested to know what it is, too. Would it be okay to use in high-temp applications (i.e. wrapping wiring close to the engine)?

That’s a roll of the same stuff from BMW. I need another roll of that, what was the part number on that, Jim? I also have the skinny roll, 8mm wide, used to strap the plastic anchors to the harness, and then you snap them into a hole on the car and the harness is held in place.

I bought Tesa 51026 wiring harness tape. Good stuff. It's sold in a whole bunch of sizes, with slightly different part numbers.

This is the stuff I used. Didn't know it came in different widths.
I only used a 1/2 roll for everything I did.
Peter, yes it can take under hood heat.

    The loom tape looks good.
Did you look into TechFlex wrap for the wires? Super easy to use and quick. Also comes in high heat version.

I was under the impression that those are more for abrasion resistance than anything else. The E39 I6 has that sort of material on the power steering lines where it can rub against the heater/coolant hoses.

I used FlexWrap in my RX7 swap. It's for ease of use and heat protection.
It works great if you have to troubleshoot and break out wires. You don't have to unloom the entire string. Has a great professional finish to it. You can get it with color coded stripes also.

I saw it years ago at the SEMA convention. I never turned back. LOL!

I'll order some of that along with the fancy fabric tape. I am beyond tired of dealing with convoluted plastic loom cover stuff.

BTW Jim, regarding these Achilles Sport 2s, I continue to be impressed. I pushed them REALLY hard the other day in some high speed cornering with up to 12psi boost happening, and they were super composed. They seem like a ridiculous bargain.

How’s the ride quality and the steering feel? The Michelin Pilot Super Sports I just wore out were excellent at both, but the replacement Conti ExtremeContact Sports are much harsher with similar feel.

I only have the Sport 2s on the rear, so I can't comment on steering feel, but they seem extremely composed. Wait a second, I have them on the front of the red car! On that car they seemed quite excellent, but honestly the front tires on that car are normally pointed the opposite direction of the curve, so maybe take it with a grain of salt. Lol

Not sure I'm the best judge of the ride quality thing either, since that is extremely subjective and it's not something that I seem to be bothered by. Also, I have 275/40s, so there is more sidewall height than normal. But I haven't noticed any untoward harshness...

Yeah tho' its sometimes horses for courses. If you have a situation where you may need to pull out or add wires (i.e. a build that's still in 'debug' mode, or is anticipating another major addition) the plastic junk has its place. But for permanent "this is the final wiring harness and its getting installed in places that hopefully never have to be accessed"... that look is way better.
