Just got a text from the driver, he left DFW a few hours ago, said he should be here around 9:30 AM.
He left MA a week ago with 8 cars in his trailer to deliver.

I can't wait to hear about this project, Jim! I've long dreamed of doing their Cobra kit car. I remember walking past their original shop in South Dartmouth years ago. How far they've come...

Christmas in February! The toy is even coming on a big red sled!
I'm excited, got about 4-5 guys coming over for the big event. The cooler is full of refreshments.
Philly after driving your car (and a friends 911TT) I knew I needed something quicker and didn't want to dump more $$$$ into my 540.
The rush from accelerating from a standstill is something I've always loved, always wanted an old car with a big engine with too much HP.
Peter, there's a guy down the street from me that has a Cobra for sale.
Ed, you hit the nail on the head.
Dennis, lots of boxes of parts coming plus parts I've ordered from Summit, Jegs, and Amazon. It'll be a garage Christmas for a few weeks.

I feel the same way. I do plan on eventually S62-swapping my 540it, but that's still only 400hp. Which is enough for daily driving and road trips, but I want something super impractical, noisy, and way overpowered. I'm cheap though, so my hot rod plan is going to be a later year C3 Corvette (like 79-82) with a truck 454 swapped in. I can build most of that from junkyard parts to minimize what I need to buy new.

Jeezuz, it's Christmas all over again! Wish I had that pile to play with. What color you going with? Been looking at some of the new Audi colors at work, Some real nice looking silky metallic greys, a nice silky greenish grey, and the blues, wow man, thinking of painting a couple of my old bikes now!
Ha! It was actually my dad and his friends that clued me in on that cool little engine. I always knew about the MGB GT's with the V8's, but never knew about the history of how Rover got the rights and all the tooling for the 215. Just imagine, the 215 was 40lbs lighter than the 99hp 1.8L 4 cylinder that came out of the MG!!!Yes!!!! Another 215 Buick guy! My dads got a few of those motors in his garage, thought about putting one into my E36.
How’d u get 300 hp? 300 heads and crank?
Yes on the 300 crank and heads. The heads were flowed and ported, used Chevy stud type rockers, went with Crower 50305 cams, can't remember lift and duration it's been so long, but real power came on between 3000-6500, redline at 7500. The 300's crank is over a half inch longer than the 215's, so I had to get a special flywheel from D&D which places the ring gear back to the right spot for the starter. The machine shop balanced everything, even went as far as claiming blueprinting, had me worried on that statement..... I started seeing the extra 0's on the bill, don't know why they had to claim bs like that, I know I only bought 8 rods and 8 pistons... If you know anything about blueprinting an engine properly, you'd be picking up many sets of everything and matching it all for the best, perfectly matched set, lol. All this was mated up to a Worldclass 6 speed, 9 inch Ford 3.73 posi.
It was a fun time that I got to spend with my dad. I did that project specifically to get him off his butt, I ended up doing almost literally everything, I thought it would revive his interest in British cars, my grandfather had a factory in the Philippines that assembled Studebakers back in the '50's, when they went out of business, my grandfather made a deal with the Rover group in England, and we assembled Austin's, MG's, Land Rovers, when the economy in England took a dump, and Rover pulled out, he dealt with Toyota, and the factory built Toyotas all the way to the early '80's. My dad had MGB's, Mini Coopers, even raced a full factory prepped Mini Cooper, which I actually learned how to drive with.
So I thought the V8 MGB project would fire him up. It did for a period, and then he fell back in a slump. When the car got done, we had some good trips in it, I would even force him and his wife, my 3rd mom... to go on weekend trips, they did it a few times, so at least they got to enjoy it a bit.
I kept having oil leak issues, not bad ones, valve cover, and oil pan gaskets, it became a pain until I finally got on top of it. I did have a lot of fun with that car, a lot of tickets too, but after 5 years, I went through some tough times and ended up having to sell it. Years later, I did get into finding old Mini Coopers in Europe, cheap, bringing them in to the US, cleaning them up and flipping them for 3 times what I got them for, but then the beautiful crummy state of NJ came down on me for flipping cars without a dealers license and that was that.
Sorry for the hijack Jim.
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
Snotty, no problem, I remember the aluminum 215ci well, even had a UK friend that built a Cobra kit car (Jag suspension of course) using the 3.5L Rover engine. He and I took it thru the Swiss Alps and thru northern Italy.
So so back to the '33. Not sure about the color, maybe black or very dark blue. Also gonna have to get a vanity plate for it.
After more unpacking boxes last night I still have 24 more to go. This is better than Christmas except the pile of broken down cardboard boxes and packing paper is starting to take over. Maybe stack some of the boxes I don't need in the living room 12 feet high, I'm sure I'll get the OK, not.
Philly, the 540 did spend the night outside under the car cover. Once I get a handle on the boxes I think I can fit everything back in the garage.
Nate, not sure about the calipers. They say PBR on them. They're all aluminum. Haven't unpacked the rear calipers yet.
Ive got a bunch of parts I want to powder coat, hope I can get some of that done today.

awesome Jim !! I don't know you like these other guys do but am very happy for you and for your next project. I'll definitely be following the progress.
The talks of the 215 motor brought up an old memory of Cordova dragstrip in Illinois. Dad and I used to go there just to watch, as he had a friend that ran a car there. We stopped by his place on the way to the track one night.... This dude had stuffed a 215 sideways into this metal-flake brown Harley chassis with a double-headstock parallel-rod steering assembly he'd fabb'd up (so he could reach across the width of the engine). It was pretty mad-max...!! IIRC - stock manifolds with straight pipes...and a cool clear distributor cap...lol !! That's about all I remember of it....heck, I was a kid, and wasn't even in my teens yet. I was only doing brake jobs, water pumps, and other routine maintenance stuff at that point...no builds..
btw...great story Snotty !!

Adm750, Google the 215 engine, lots of good info there about it and how the UK got the rights to it.
BavE31, LOL hope my luck holds out but I haven't had to do anything to my 540 since last summer....knock on wood.
I do have a small valve cover oil leak on the pass side that I should fix before it gets too bad. Only have had the gaskets for 6+ months.
Unpacked more boxed today, started some powder coating on some of the front suspension pieces. Pulled the pistons and seals out of the calipers to powder coat them, should have that done tomorrow, I hope.

To be fair, my 540it hasn't been very needy at all, and I've daily-driven it for 1.5 years and 30k miles now. In that whole time, the only things that have actually failed have been the radiator (within the first month) and the CSB. Other than that, it's just been typical maintenance and refreshing the suspension, along with a handful of mods along the way. I almost feel like the harder you drive a 540i, the better it behaves.
