My niece just gave me her 89 325i 2dr coupe. She is moving out of state and doesn't want it anymore.
Has a history of cooling issues. Head gasket replaced this last summer, new gaskets, new headbolts, head surfaced and checked for.cracks. I think this is the second time I have done it on this car.
Waterpump, fan clutch and thermostat month or two ago. Was running great and cool.till hose blew.
She has had it 6 years. Is it possible the block is warped? She just blew upper radiator hose and now it sits at my place. Thinking of giving it to my daughter.
Concerned with reliability. Miles are probably over 200k on this engine.
Perform a cylinder leakdown test for damage assessment.
and 200k is nothing on that motor.
No e30s again.
The fan clutch is commonly overlooked, new ones aren’t expensive so just get one. Radiators aren’t much either. The first thing I did on my cars was to remove, inspect, and replace all the cooling system parts. The 2 sensors on the thermostat housing, thermostat, hoses, delete the throttle body hose, water pump. Be sure to bleed air from the system too.

Thanks guys for some direction. The only thing we hadn't changed was th radiator. I think. Now that it mine , I guess I'll tackle it like it is new to me and do a thorough inspection.
A bad radiator caused me all kinds of problems and I thought it was good. As other reply states they aren't expensive. Here is a really low priced one. Radiator
