Been having an issue with a growling noise when I cold start the 04 330. Posted a thread on it a few months ago. I thought for sure it was the CCV so I replaced it. Still making the noise. Took it to a buddies shop and he threw it on an Autologic. No solutions found but he thought the symptoms pointed toward the 115k auto tranny. This morning I swapped out the fuel filter/pressure regulator. When I dropped the shield I found the vacuum hose to the regulator was all dried out and broken. Installed the new filter and replaced the rubber vacuum hose. Car runs great and no more noise

Ah, the sweet sound of victory.
Just a quick note...Almost all vacuum leaks in the vacuum system can be detected right away. Use an unlit and opened propane torch waved in and around the engine bay compartment with the engine running. A leaking vacuum hose will suck in the propane..and when it does the engine will rise in RPM momentarily. Now you have isolated the area to investigate further.
