Exclamation CD 43 compatible with E34?

Can anyone confirm if this stereo/CD, part #6512-6909884 is compatible with the E34? It is the cd43 stereo that is oem on E36. ebay says it is, but wanted to be sure. i want to replace the original head unit/cassette with this. i am done with the 6 disk changer issues. gone through 2 in 2 years-ridiculous at $550 a piece.

If your e34 is a 1991 or newer e34...then yes...the wiring harness is the same on the CD43 as your original. The only thing it won't do is run your BMW 6 CD changer in the trunk. Your old system communicated with the changer over the M-bus...and the CD43 HU communicates with the changer over the I-bus...which means you would need to run a new/updated data cable from the HU back to the changer.

Good news...the CD43 can be adapted to run an iPod. There are several makers that have units that plug into the 10-pin CD data cable on the back of the unit and allows you to hook up an i-Pod or other MP3 player.

Someone on BimmerBoard.com's e34 forum just posted info on what he did to adaptt his C33 unit from an e36 to use an ipod (this would work on the CD43, too): http://www.bimmerboard.com/forums/posts/493954

BTW, if you had gone to the e34 specific board here...and did a simple search there...I'm sure you would have found this info.

    Good luck.

Thanks so much. Yes, I did search the archives and saw that it looked to be compatible, but I wanted to be absolutely sure, before I purchased it. Hopefully, it truly is as easy to install as plugging it in.

be aware some of the e36 ones do not have the data/obc functionality, if you are used to seeing your radio stations/cd track number displayed on the gauge cluster for example

as stated above 1991 and after,Yes

I have one. run a GROM USB/Bluetooth from it... great but this car had its Amp removed and the wires just spliced back together... I get some engine whine at lower gears.... wonder if I spliced in another amp if that would cut that out...

Even if its not plug and play, it just takes a little bit of time to get it to work. My car is a 90 that was missing the factory amp. I just said F-it and wired it to work with an aftermarket amp.
