Received my smileys today. I know the headlights require the bulbs H1. Are the high beam and low beam the same bulb? Please let me know what you used.

Fit and finish was very good. Wiring was a bear. Used two relays and two diodes but everything works as designed. The city light are awesome btw.

Do you have any advice on the wiring. Did you have a schematic on the wiring or some sort of read on it?
I am definitely interested in these, so I want to gather some info on it. Anything you have would be very helpful.

No schematics. I tried wiring it from a YouTube video but when I put the brights on the low beams turned off. So I thought about it for a while and came up with a solution. I can try to explain. Can’t now but I’ll post something soon.

Why did you need relays and diodes? I just made a small fuse box jump and wired the city lights into the running lights.

If it took you 2 relays and 2 diodes, you probably did it the hard way. But as long as it works...

The problem is that the outboard lamps on a sealed beam car are actually 2 lights in one. In low, 1 light is lit from its own circuit. In high, the other light is lit on a piggyback from the high beam. With smileys and their H1 bulb, the car is wired that the outboard light circuits are powered in both low and high position. There is no second light to piggyback from the high beam. There's a mod you can do to one of the relays in the fuse box to keep the outboard lights powered in high.

i agree. It is the hard way. But here are my reasons. The headlight power is supplied by an 18ga. wire. Wasn’t comfortable putting two H1 bulbs on that wire. In addition I added a 7.5a fuse block since each light is protected in the fuse box by a 7.5a. Now the diode I added to prevent the backfeed of 12 volt through the low beam circuit. I couldn’t get a straight answer from several forums as to any issues this may cause so I added that protection. So what I have is a safe albeit over engineered headlight circuit. Wish I knew about the relay mod you mentioned. Would have been done last week and saved myself a few shekels. Lol

see my answer above. The city lights are wired through the side markers. They are led so wasn’t worried about the additional 12v draw.

Can you elaborate on the relay mod or post a link?
Scootsk, it sounds like you were looking a safe route. I don't want to start a fire installing smileys lol. I am interested in seeing the mod though to see what would be best for me. I want a purchase a set for my car, but I want to make sure everything is already known before I start. I already have a ton of work to do on this car. The less headaches the better lol.

There will be no fires. Smileys are original equipment. Even the slight bump in wattage from sealed beams to smileys isn't dangerous, especially if you stay at the original 55W.
