Hey, folks, I'm considering buying a '79 733i. It is a de-reactored car (headers) that needs an exhaust front-to-back, and I'm trying to get a handle on price and options.
I see that there are some ANSA Euro 733i exhaust pieces available on both eBay and Bavauto at good prices. RealOEM seems to verify that they're for an early Euro car. They certainly have different part numbers than the US-spec pieces. Does anyone know what the difference is? I thought that a US-spec early 733i like a '79 had reactors but no cat and no oxygen sensor. I'm not sure why there should a difference between what bolts onto the downpipes between the Euro and US-spec cars.
Thanks.

I have the same car, ('79 733i cat delete) and ended up using M30B35 exhaust manifolds (I removed the thermo reactors which are death to early heads) and a custom 2.5" exhaust using a Magnaflow muffler and resonator, kept the same routing, there's a short build thread on it-
Looks good, sounds good and engine breathes much better- pulls stronger and I find I don't have to downshift nearly as much as before when I slow down.
ANSA = SHIT just so you know.
I make E23 parts.

Thanks, folks, appreciate the advice. I am curious, though, if anyone knows the answer to the specific question I asked -- what the difference is between a Euro and a US-spec exhaust for an early (reactor) car.

I can't imagine much of a difference if any on EU cars vs US spec cars, but I'm not the expert/ Maybe Kieth will chine in, he has a data base in his head it seems like for stuff like this.
