    2018 M5 is fast

I don’t usually get excited about new BMW since the models I like cost too much new for me to buy, but I just read Road & Track’s review of the new M5 and it has incredible performance. 0-60 in 2.8, 1:4 mike in 10.9 at 127 mph. This is Porsche 991 Twin Turbo level straight line performance from a practical 4 door sedan. It has AWD to help put the power down and it is a performance oriented system unlike all of BMWs past AWD that were meant to help in winter driving. Only downside is the $105k base price. Maybe in 5 years I can buy one. Would like to see a comparison with the 2018 Mercedes E63 AMG BiTurbo, the other sedan I like and can not afford.

That my quandary, when I can afford these supercars, the warranty has expired, and that's exactly why they get so cheap. I once said I'd never own a turbo anything, having been the repair tech. for my son's turbo Probe,Supra,Nissan.(all blew up)

Manual cars are slower than autos or DCT or PDK and get worse mpg. There was a time they were the higher performance option but that time is over. Today their main benefit is that give you something additional to do while driving and some people want that.

I have been rowing gears for 35 years. Both of my M3s are manual trans.

Long time no talk Pbonsalb. As luck would have it I recently bought a 2018 M5 and I like it quite a lot. I came here to see what I could learn about the car and came up with squat. But I was happy to see you here after all these years.

I'm also happy to see you still have the e36 running!

Ya know what’s fast a twin electric motor Tesla, I drove one and from a standing start, incredible, the guy that owned it said nothing he has come up against has beaten him it except maybe at higher speeds when they catch up

I just drove a Tesla Model 3 Performance and was very impressed by both the handling and the performance, but it would be the larger S that might rival an M5.

The larger S would smoke the M5 by far but only with the upgraded performance package. But horsepower can only get you so far with fast driving, weight and driver skill is a huge factor too.

Depends, the m5 would pull hard at high speeds. The tesla hits a wall.
