Who was asking what the temps were on my ceramic coated headers?

After driving about 15 miles I pulled into the garage, I kept the engine running.
Pulled out my IR and digital surface contact temp readout.
The reading was 415F on the digital and 420F on the IR.

I'm sure I measured the temps on my OE manifold years ago but don't remember what they were.
Must have been higher as my under hood temp seems lower with ceramic coated headers.

Ceramic coating? Headers? It is interesting, never hear about it, I knew that the coating of piston increases melting point of it, but what is the reason of coating of Headers?

Not too hot Jim! Ceramic must be helping!

I have an EGT sensor. Shows around 750 F at idle.

Mainly heats occur in combustion chambers/cylinders, that heat impacts to pistons and easelly destroy them. Why you need coated headers? What is the reason?

Philly, your reading the temp inside the headers, right?

Dovlet, the coating keeps the heat inside the header. More heat keeps the exhaust gas moving faster.
Also keeps the under hood temps lower.

Yes, inside the headers Jim. On hwy cruise, it runs around 1000 F +/-. IIRC its around 1300+ F when I'm on it.

I can't wait for your new project to get moving. All brandy new and shiny stuff!!!

Dovlet, I'm building a Factory Five Racing '33 Ford Hotrod.
I'm putting a new GM LS3 6.2L engine in it. Stock HP with 4 CAT's is 430. I already have the engine and tranny.
I have ceramic coated headers on it and will not be using CAT's so HP should be at least 440, maybe 450.
The car will weigh about 2400Lbs.

Deamn, i was also interested in ls3. I saw many projects with 100% income in power. Only changes in intake & fuel system can give you about more than 100hp. Wau, my regards bro. Good luck.

Replacing the cam will give you an instant 50HP increase. Think it's about $200.
