    Supercharger on a Budget

Check out this link to a budget oriented Supercharger (HMW V2.1 SC 14). What do you think...worth the $ and will there be other items that would need addressing before & after the supercharger is in place? Note it's not one that produces a huge amount of HP. But I think it would increase my M54 from 225 HP to 300 HP which would be comfortable for me. Thoughts/comments??https://hydemotorworks.com/supercharger-setups/

Wow... uh, I always like seeing creative solutions, but that's a bit too homebrew to command retail IMHO.

Get your yourself a cutoff wheel, a Harbor Freight mig welder, a 1/4 plate steel, and I think you'll do about as well.

Eh, I got complete(minus tune) RMS stage 2 for $1800 which was a steal. Normally $2500 can snag one. I showed a 151whp gain after install. A trusted used setup is hard to beat for hp per dollar.

Check out the FI section on this forum. Search "MisterM52"
He has done a lot of R&D to get to this point.
One thing you will need is a tune from a 3rd party.

This strikes me as the equivalent of selling a pile of bent tubing, and calling it a race car kit. Yeah, you might be able to build a rollbar out of it. But so much is missing.

My buddy wanted a deal like I got. I got him an RMS stage2, identical hardware for $5500...it happened to come with an '97 E36 M3 lol. He was going to take the blower but the car wound up being so nice he made it his track/street car instead of supercharging his M3 clone.

Deals are out there for the patient ones.

Join the club. Pretty much the only blower setup I’d really like .

Expect plus another $500-$800 for a decent tune for it, unless you care to do it yourself.
I was approached by MisterM52 for tuning, and we've talked a bit, but I am so short on time now, and so many projects lined up. Is this what happens in normal adulthood?

What I see for the specific kit op is pondering is a set of mounting brackets. Options include a used blower and some mating flanges. This leaves all tuning including MAF and injectors, fuel supply and air plumbing up to the customer. Plus unknown modifications to clear the Z3 sheet metal. This a not simple beginners project.

    Morrie,

If this is for an M54 3.0, I may have a complete VF Supercharger kit available for you soon.

This certainly sounds interesting. Anyone have any experience with these kits yet?

My experience has been mixed. The end results are good.
He is the only choice AFAIK for my platform. Z3 owners have many other options.

Also keep in mind that the custom manifold on the supercharger kit will need to remove the DISA system and a few other components. You're in custom tune territory by then.
In my opinion DISA is a wonderful system to have, even with forced induction.

That super short runner intake manifold will not be kind to your torque, and you'd have very disproportional hp to torque gains.
Runner length is just as important in FI as in N/A.

It's the valve in the intake manifold of the M52tu and M54 (also M44, and most new BMWs), that essentially switches the intake tract from long runner characteristics (high torque) to short runners (high hp), by modifying the resonance chamber / distance of intake tract.
M52tu and M54 have a 2 step, while newer engines have 3 steps.
