Sudden power loss through all gears, entire power band. Even a prius can outrun me. This happened immediately after i swapped the ABS module. Three yellow lights still on the dash, abs, brake ...
There is no foul smell nor rattling to suspect cats.
CEL flashes when the car starts, codes are CAN timeout ASC and EWS message. I don't know what to make of those. The idle is not too bad but there is some vibration.
I am using a Peake tool to scan the codes. Again there is a constant power deficiency at all times. Seems like half of the engine is dead. I put back the old ABS module but no change.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Sounds like the car is in limp mode due to communication issues. The CAN errors mean the primary engine/transmission/ABS modules don't have a solid communication link. This may be due to you swapping modules without coding or could be another problem.

I cleared the codes and "EWS Message" keeps coming back. Car is definietly down on power. It starts and idles fairly well but it's a pain to drive. Very slow pull away from stop lights.

Did you code the new ABS module to the car?
Disconnect the batteries while swapping?
Changed any other modules?
There are (2) crank position sensors on the bottom of the transmission bell housing. 6pm and 4pm looking up, looking towards the front of the car. If one of those
dies, it will run on 6 cylinders. A bad DME will also cause it to run on 6 cylinders. Im working through this now on my 98' 750il.
Start simple and work into it. Id start with coding the new part to the car and a battery nap.

The ABS work was being done at a local shop. I cannot say how the work was being done. I only know that they weren't successful and when i collected the car i immediately noticed that something was wrong.
I will check the status of the cam sensors underneath the transmission.
I have done battery naps to no avail and re-installed the original faulty ABS module. No change.
Thanks.

What code is the EWS module throwing?
Your ignition key(s) tell the EWS (located behind lower dash in front of your left knee) that its "ok" to start the car, EWS tells the DME's & EML to supply power for fuel pump and spark. EWS modules can loose sync in that insane security system and give issues as well.

The code is "EWS Message" that's all. I don't know what to make of it.
