hello, ive had this e46 325xi for about a year and a half now and my wife took the car on a 60 mile round trip the other day and then on the way home it started as she describes it as humming/vibrating from the arm rest to the rear and front... im assuming its the transfer case. does anyone have any insight on properly diagnosing it. i dont think its the CSB as i just replaced it two weeks ago, guibo was removed from trans and remained mounted to the drive shaft during the CSB replacement it was inspected and did not appear damaged and was reused. does anyone here have any videos maybe or hints at helping me properly diagnosing it before i spend 200-300 on a used unit....
"... im assuming its the transfer case."
Don't 'assume' anything. Find the problem before you start throwing money at it.
Deductive reasoning would show that if you changed a part and then another issue appeared, the new issue is related to the newly changed part. A non-oem CSB can cause further vibration. So can it not being properly installed. Did you mark the two halves before disassembly? I would go over the repair with a fine tooth comb
Since you were there already,
you should have replaced the guibo also,
considering age of vehicle.
I also agree with above post, the answer is in the fine details.
