Anyone use 205/50r17

If you have interest in enjoying the car's handling consider a more appropriate width tire. My road tires are 245/40-17 on all four, not that this is ideal for the factory wheel sizes.

Some kids like the stretched tire look. It’s not great for handling or wear, but those things don’t matter when looks are the priority. And the skinny stretched tires give more room in the wheel wells to dump the car and ride around on the bump stops. This goes well with a big subwoofer.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I would have never bought the tire set up like this. I was just looking to see if anyone has used this size before and how they liked it. I will be getting a wider set once I'm done fixing the other problems. I would post a pic of the set up but can't do it from my phone.

I was going to get 245/40/17 but they are to wide for my wheels I have style 137s

17x8 ET47 wheels from an E46. BMW put 235/40/17 on 17x7.5 on the 1995 M3. You could use that size or go up to a 245/40/17. I don’t know whether you would need a spacer given the offset — M3 wheels were about 1/4 inch more outboard with their ET41 offset.

I've ran up to 255/40 on a 8" wheel. 245/40 is just fine. If you're racing, it's a different story (but you'd be a wider wheel already...).

So go with 245/40, it'll be great (insert Trump gif). 225/45 would work, too, and is much more available for the cheap.

I'd suggest just running the OEM 225/45-17 front and 245/40-17 rear on the stock staggered 17x7.5 and 17x8.5 wheels. If you get wheels for a square setup in the 8.5-9 inch range (high offset, OEM is ET41), you can easily run 245/40's all around with no issues except maybe needing a small spacer up front. Though keep in mind if this is for the street wider wheels/tires means you're pushing more rubber around so it hurts gas mileage, if you care about such things.

I daily drive my track car on OEM wheels that are the exact width and offset that you have, 17x8 +47... I would not run anything larger than 225/45 on them, and I don't. It is completely pointless to run 235, 245, & 255 on those wheels, unless you are getting a better price or sale on the tires in those sizes.

I wish mine were 17x8 but they are 17x7. I don't know what the person was thinking when they put them on.

Are you sure? I thought Style 137 were 17x8. Might be stamped on the back.

Then I have no clue what wheel they are. I was told they were style 137 and they look like style 137. I measured them and brought them to a tire shop and they said they are 17x7. When I get a chance I'll pull one off and post all the markings

Well that would certainly provide some more insight as to why 205s were originally fitted, I would have done the same.

Perhaps a better option would be to check the local classifieds for a set of OEM M3 wheels, with a set of decent tires, rather than continuing this cycle of x7 wheels and 205 tires on a M3. I am sure the cost difference between that and new tires for the x7s can't be more than $100 if you know where to look.

I am trying to find some that aren't overpriced. These were on the car when I got it. I would prefer my old set off my 1st m3 but can't find any close by.
