Hoping for E36 real world experience with 17x8.5 and 9.5 wheels

Ok, I have a E36 currently on 17” x8” wheels with 40 offset, square, with 255 40’s in the rear and 235 45’s in the front. All fenders are rolled. The rear fenders are also slightly pulled. I am on adjustable coil overs with camber plates. No spacers. I do not have any rubbing issues.

I am considering new 17” wheels. The fronts are 8 1/2” with 30 offset. The rears are 9 1/2” with 20 offset. Does anyone have any real world experience with these wheel sizes?

    thanks in advance!

Sorry, just 17 x 8.5 with 40 offset at the moment. If I was doing it all over again and shopping for 8.5's specifically for the front, 30 offset is what I would be looking for. With the 8.5/40s on the front running tires with a 24.3" diameter, 9.7" section width, and 8.7 tread width, I'm getting a touch of rubbing on the inside of the wheel wells from about 9 oclock to 11 oclock, but I still have plenty of fender clearance (no rolling at present). It doesn't seem to be much of an issue on the street. The rubbing occurs on the track. But it's not bad enough to keep me from running the wheels.
If God meant for man to motor-swap LS engines into track cars, He wouldn't have created Corvettes.

Why not just get square 17x9's and run 255's all around? You should be able to do that no problem with your rolled fenders and ET40+.

As for your 17x8.5 ET30's, they'll fit fine in front without any spacer. The offset is lower than stock so it should clear the strut. As for the wide ET20 rears, no chance unless you cut the fenders and put on a wide body kit. For comparison, my 17x9 ET42 wheels with 255's will barely fit in the rear with rolled fenders (I run 245's with no fender roll). Your wheels would be a half inch wider, plus they're pushed out 22mm closer to the fenders, so no way they'd clear the fenders.
