OK, so now I have a red Heckblende for my 95 Calypso 540i/6 and a smoked Heckblende for my 93 Black 525i. Both currently have the flat black M5 filler plates on them (Like picture # 1). To install them I hole cut four holes in them to match the four screw holes to install the US license plate. My vehicles do not have the two holes that would match up to Heckblendes. I would imagine that a European E34 might only have the two holes.
Before I hole cut these, much more expensive parts, I was wondering how others dealt with this issue. The fourth picture is of my E34 with the M5 filler plate and a US plate installed over a custom European plate (With four holes drilled).

Something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-BMW-5-S...haXrFR&vxp=mtr would solve the install, if I only had the two holes towards the center in my trunk lid.

I'm in the same boat, haven't gotten around to actually install it for the same reason; I'm leaning towards drilling the euro plate holes in the trunk vs. trying to make 4 perfectly aligned holes in a brittle, expensive, and hard to find, piece of polycarbonate (or whatever material the Heckblende is), and using a plate holder like the one in the link.
I mean, the holes in the trunk would be masked somewhat by the Heckblende, the original holes can be plugged, and worst case scenario, if the trunk gets trashed (which, I can't foresee that actually happening, unless you're drunk-drilling... ), I think a spare trunk would be easier and cheaper to find at a junkyard than a Heckblende...
Just my 2 cents! Anyways, that's at least my 1st choice...

Double sided tape is your friend. Not the cheap stuff, some proper 3m one.
This is good advice. And get 3M as recommended. The other option might be to use 3M brand Dual Lock tape, the kind used to hold toll transponders to windshields. I have used this method to attach a front plate to avoid drilling holes in the bumper trim. Just don't skimp on the lengths used.

As far as I got was the idea of looping some heavy gauge wire or line of some material that would withstand the elements are basically just looping it through all of the available holes securing it to the through The heckenblade
