99 323i bone stock vs Lincoln MKX vs built Stang

First post here and on the forum in general. Figured I'd start with the fun aspect of the new to me 323.

Just cruising home from grandson's bday party, wife and I (her second ride in the car), I come up on 2 cars doing about 45 in the 55 zone. First is a noticeably built (sound, visual etc) Stang, behind him is a newer MKZ with the license plate that shows "I'm a teacher". All the sudden you hear the stang come to life, I think nothing of it, but then the Lincoln decides to try to keep up with said stang. So I figured this is my chance, let's see what this thing will do. Rolling start at about 45, I hammer 3rd and bury the pedal, before I knew it I was at about 100, blew doors on the Lincoln shifting 3rd to 4th and topping the triple digit mark. Wife is quiet up until this point but finally says "What are you doing", to which my obvious reply..."winning!" Mustang is quite far ahead by this point, but I keep it pinned to the floor, because why not. Not gaining on mister mustang and I'm at about 120ish, look in the rear view and Lincoln is way back. My brain engages and I decide that going to jail was not really on the agenda for the day so I back her down to cruising speed of about 60.

Few miles later pull into a gas station, Mustang guy is there, sees me, compliments the car, I compliment his, and he offers to give me a run telling me he's heard good things about the older BMW's. I politely decline but thank him, telling him I just bought it, haven't really done anything to it, and I try to baby it since it is a bit older.

Probably a boring story to some of ya'll that wind yours out on a regular basis, but it was fun and very impressive to me. This weekend will be a month of me owning the car and I have to say I've become an enthusiast overnight! 18ish years old, 180k miles and still runs like that...yeah I'm liking it A LOT

Nice Run. MKZ's arent slow cars and should definitely have no problem with a 323 depending on what engine it has. My friend had a 2015 MKZ with the 3.7 v6(300hp) and my e39 530i 5-speed(which is faster then an 323) was noticeably slower. He might not of really been racing you and could of just been driving spirited.
