    Free DME or EGS update

I’ve been doing updates for folks on e46fanatics.com for a while now and am happy to offer the same here. See my update thread for more info.
    http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=1081716

I use WinKFP to check the current version and update to the latest, if needed. Buy a K+DCAN cable (with the built-in switch) and PM me to arrange it or ask questions.

What benefits will updating the DME offer?

I have an off-the-shelf Shark Injector tune - will this affect that?

Amazing service you are offering! From my brief review of your thread, I see that a lot of people love the results (more power, smoother shifting, etc). What equipment is required on our end (I see that a second car battery would be ideal, etc)?
My car is a '03. Would it benefit from an update? Thanks!

I suppose it would over-write it. I guess you could update the DME with the latest stock software, then overwrite that with the Shark Injector software.

Yeah, the improvement is subtle, but noticeable. Smoother yet more responsive is how I’d describe it.

You need a Windows laptop and a K+DCAN cable with the built-in switch like this.
    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0811B3T62

I connect remotely, install and configure the software, then update your car.
Extra battery isn’t necessary as the update process doesn’t use much current and doesn’t take very long.
Your 2003 530i has the MS43 DME which takes about 15 minutes to update the DME.

After it’s done you’ll have INPA, NCS Expert, and WinKFP all set up on your laptop.

Win10 64 compatible? I haven’t gotten around to getting INPA/etc and PASoft working just yet. They work on my Win7 boot.

I’ve poked around the open source MS43wiki project a bit, and I have an INPA cable (no switch, but 7 and 8 are soldered together) that has successfully read the full BIN using MSS5x Flasher. Will that cable work?

Most/all of the MS43wiki development work has been on what they call “softwareversion” MS430056 (which I am running now). I assume newer dealer software will update beyond that to MS430070? My car is running MS430056 from the factory.

    I’m interested!

Yup, that INPA (K+DCAN) cable with pins 7 & 8 soldered together will work.

I can set up both BMW Scanner 1.4 and the BMW Standard Tools for you.

I only update stock software from the BMW daten files. I don’t mess with tuning or other DME mods.

PM me your contact info and we can discuss more or set up a time to do the install and/or update.

BTW, I do this for two (ok 3) reasons:
    1. It was a lot of time and effort for me to figure out all this stuff and I’d like to save my fellow BMW fans the hassle.
    2. I’ve personally gotten a lot out of these forums and the community members over the years and want to give back.
    3. Sometimes they bring me beers.

Yeah, just PM me when you’re ready or if you have questions. I do about one update per week these days.

Check realoem.com or bmwfans.info to see if there's an update for your ME7.2 DME.

It depends on what version you currently have. You check your current version using BMW Scanner 1.4 or INPA and following this post.

I posted the entire MS43 version history here.

Looking on bmwfans.info, I don’t see an EU2 tune there.
    http://bmwfans.info/parts-catalog/E3...ol_unit_dme_2/

USA and Europe both show the same flash assembly number: 12141429915

Well my terminology might be wrong...I mostly just want to get rid of the post cat O2 sensors.

I think your terminology is correct, just that in those early years they may not have had different flashes for USA and EU. As I recall, EU lagged behind USA in their emissions standards. Honestly, I cannot recall trying to flash an M5.2 DME.

Have you heard of anyone flashing in stock DME software to remove post-cat O2 sensor support?

Looking at realoem.com, I picked an 01/1997 production date, it shows no O2 sensors on the exhaust manifold at all.
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_1418
The diagram with O2 sensors states “No parts found for your car”.
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_2283

Do you have the stock engine?
What’s the last 7 VIN digits?

Well that's a bummer. I was told (elsewhere) that was the only way to ditch the post cat O2 sensors. Oh well. I might hit you up for other services, though, if you don't mind (and it's stuff I'll gladly pay for when the time comes).

For the MS43 in E39, E46, etc., there is an EU2 flash for Europe that I’ve updated many cars with that removes SAP and post-cat support. If you can get more info about a similar flash for your 1997 540i from your source, that may help?

FWIW, I don’t accept any payment for helping the forum members. Just glad to give back.
