Hey all,
First post here but long time lurker. Bought one of my all time favorite cars last spring - a 1991 850i.
Although I paid for a PPI before buying, after driving the car for the summer I discovered the driver's side front strut was bent and amazingly loose.
Here's the issue - as you may know the E31 has a unique suspension design, and I cannot find a strut anywhere. Its not just the insert, it's the entire housing (and maybe more, I don't exactly know yet).
Any tips? Considered coilovers but after reading here that doesnt sound easy unless I tried the "Ceika" coils. Obviously BMW new and hard to find used.
Thanks!
Read this a couple of times then book mark it:

If your changing one strut / shock do the other one as well. If you can refresh the whole suspension system.
choices are:
TRWs that went on sale on FCP euro for super cheap
blisteins b6 or b8
mtechs oem but worth every penny
Koni inserts (Look up Hyper’s write up)
Do a search on forum and come back for more info. So much has been written on this issue.
Thanks for the article, great read and very helpful...
But didn't answer my question at all. I'm asking about the strut HOUSING, not the strut, springs, or anything related to performance really.
Thanks!
